Default Queen Mary II and QEII in New York City

Just read that the Queen Elizabeth II and Queen Mary II will be in New York City around April 20th. Anyone have additional info? Do you know if we can board the ships to look around? They are also supposed to have something with both of them sailing past the Statue of Liberty. If I get more info, I will post it.
Bobbie

Your info is wrong. We will sail on the QE2 April 19 out of Southhampton and arrive in NYC April25. April 25, they will both sail out of NYC with ceremonies when the QM2 takes over the crossing duties.

Only paying passengers and crew are allolwed on cruise ships these days. Security, you know.

Hi Bobby,
I can recommend a very good website re the 2 Queens in New York. It is:
wsspony.msn.com This stands for World Ship Society-New York Branch. You can take a ride on a ferry to witness the departure of the Queens into the Atlantic from a New York Quayside. (not sure which one) I believe cruisinKand J atr right when they mention the securty factor re visits to the ships. No harm in calling Cunard to find out for sure though.

Noone can board a cruise ship unless they are paying passengers or crew. No friends of family members can go on the ship. It's been this way for a number of years, ever since the (And I know I'm spelling this wrong) cruise ship Aquilli Loro incident some years ago when terrorists took over and , in the process, killed a passenger when they pushed a wheel chair-bound person overboard. Can't remember the specific details.

May I clarfify something? I should have said that in the U.S., only paying customers and crew can board a ship. I recently read a river boat brochure for cruising the Nile which warned that the riverboats moored side by side and that people from other boats had to go thru your boat to go ashore and back again. Personally, I wouldn't like that; not with all the political and terrorism issues going on. But I'm sure there are other exceptions as well.

You can no longer just "call up" and make an appointment to view a ship. However, I would like to add that you can board ships while in port in the U.S. IF you are invited.

I am not a travel agent or any 'bigwig" but I have recieved e-mail invitations by Princess Cruiselines twice in the last 12 months to board a ship for lunch and to walk the ship unescorted. (I am a prior cruiser with PCL though). I had lunch and did a walk thru of the Pacific Princess (Old 'R" ship) last Spring and just was on the Diamond Princess in March/04.

You are absolutely right! We just got invited to have lunch on the Diamond. I would have loved to, but we won't be able to. We've had other opportunitiesto tour ships. I'd forgotten.

However, it is kind of cruel. Here you go onboard - have lunch - tour the ship AND THEN HAVE TO GET OFF THE SHIP before it sails that evening! Princess knows what they are doing though. I booked the Diamond for this coming November.
