We are plannin a cruise to the Bahamas, Nassau. we were thinking about renting scooters there?? would you recomend renting scooters? where are scooters availble to rent?? should we reserve them now? or are there plenty there?? would you not suggest renting them? why? how do you suggest gettin around..we will only be there for about 10 hrs.
NO....please don't do it. They are dangerous and so many people get hurt. There is too much traffic as well. What I recommend doing is hopping in a cab and going to the mega-resort Atlantis for the day. There is an awsome aquarium and a huge casino.
It's an amazing place. I think you can also take a short ferry ride right from the pier -- ask the shore excursion staff or front desk.
Definitely take Anne's advice--it's absolutely rock solid!!! Those motorscooters can be dangerous and difficult to maneuver in Bahamian traffic. We rented one in Nassau many years ago and I'd NEVER do it again. Even my husband agreed after we saw someone else involved in an accident on theirs.
Stay safe and take a cab--drivers there are accustomed to driving on the "wrong" side of the road!
I agree with the don't rent a scooter in Nassau. On our last cruise a fellow had rented a scooter and was riding it down the street when a van backed out of a parking space (as there is a lot of angle parking on the streets) and knocked him and the bike flying. He was all scraped up and very lucky he wasn't hurt worse but he had to limp back walking the scooter as it was totally messed up.
I second taking a cab, its the only way see the sites besides walking.
