Default Do spammers stay up all night

My wife and I are not early to bed people. I'm usually up until midnight. I do a last check of the CM boards and e-mail.

The next morning I'll have at least 15 spam mails in just one of my e-mail addresses.
Do spammers stay up all night sending this junk out?

I don't think spammers CAN sleep, thinking about the general annoyance they cause. I have about 400 subject line keywords on my block list, and some still get through because of the varities of ways they enter subjects. Their work consists basically of automatic, passive harrassment. There should be bounties on them! Ditto for whomever invented the popup!

Same here Steve(s). I always get tons of junk-mail, very little real e-mail, and despite junk-mail filter, they still get through. Do you guys get pop-ups related to what you're reading at the moment? For instance, a CM birthday wish, and up pops "Flowers for any Occasion", or CM asking about flights and up pops "Air Travel Deals!". It's scary sometimes - talk about Big Brother watching!

Donna- Actually it is little brother watching. Certain websites (some very reputable ones) plant programs known as spyware on your computer. These programs pickup key words in what you are reading and pop up ads appropriate to the subject. It is not illegal nor are they considered virus programs. I use a program called Spybot to rid my system of them once or twice a week. It is virtually impossible to stop them unless you set your computer not to accept cookies. However that will result in being unable to access many web sites.

Yes, do a search on "Spybot Search & Destroy," download the free software, and run it. You will be amazed at all the junk that is on your computer!!!

Cheers,
Michelle P.

Spam senders are automated, so no, the spammers don't sleep because they are computers. Since an individual spammer can send out millions of SPAM emails a day, it is an around the clock process.

I run Norton Anti-Virus, Norton Firewall, Ad-Ware and Spybot. I have not experienced any problems (we have a cable connection), but my boyfriend has. Many times, stuff you get is loaded from the websites you visit, so if you find you have a problem, you made to look at the websites you are visting and change your surfing habits. Porno sites are the biggest offenders for loading Spyware programs and for inadvertently downloading viruses. If a screen pops up saying it has to download something before you can view the website, click "no".

I use Adware and Spybot. These "lurker" spyware programs had infested our pc and crippled it. Now I know better, and run these programs at least weekly, if not more often than that. Both of them. Do a Windows Cleanup and Defrag weekly too.
