It is 9:41 p.m. in Southern California. At 10 p.m., Keith will have been seizure-free 24 hours. Of course, he is still in the ICU, but the doctors have ordered a cut-back on the sedation. Little by little, they will reduce one or two of the other meds and see if he has a seizure, so it's still ciritcal (and scary!). He started to come out of the sedation a bit while I was there today and tonight. My son-in-law was there as well, and keith seemed to know that we were with him.
As I told R. Donna, the damned insurance company already wants to move him to a a local hospital because it's cheaper. Both of these hospitals are inadequate for Keith's condition. The neurosurgeon strongly objected saying that Keith is still unstable and still on a ventilator.
I spoke with the hospital case manager who said don't worry yet. He won't go anywhere while he's unstable, because then the insurance company would be liable.
I'm sure you all know how it is with them, never mind the patient care, just put money first. I can think of some dirt words, but the site woudn't let me use them anyway, so you guys will have to imagine them!
Anyway, it's just possible that things are looking up. Please, please keep on praying, as I will. Judy
It's at least a little good news, Judy, and God knows you haven't had a lot of that lately. You and Keith remain in our thoughts and prayers, as do those cretins from your insurance company. And we understand exactly what unprintable words you're thinking about with regard to their insensitivity. We hope they don't press the issue of moving Keith until he's out of the woods. God bless you!
Add my prayers also. May God bless you both and Keith get better soon.

Don't entirely depend on god. I'm a bit more pragmatic. Be sure to hold your ground with the insurance company even if it requires legal advice. Their "gate keepers" and "Dr. No" people often go to liar's school only to save a buck for their corporate interests. H.M.O.s are particularly bad. If you have any doctor friends or nurse friends, pick their brains on how to ensure that he gets the care of the specialists.
I'm going through a similar problem with a good friend right now and it is hard to know how to insist upon proper medical care for patients who truly need it.
It could make a huge difference in Keith's life and your's.
My thoughts and concern are with you every minute.I hope you have more progress to report very soon. I can't help but think there is a medical answer if they dig deep enough into the problem.
