Default D-Day & France's involvement in world issues...

Isn' t it interesting that France is celebrating the 60th anniversary of D-Day when the US & other allied forces fought to liberate them from the Germans, yet they refuse to become involved in other world situations like theirs were???

Things that make you go hmmm.....

That is interesting. It's equally interesting that we celebrate our Independence Day, which was a direct result of when the French fought to liberate us from England and yet we refuse to abide by a consensus of the United Nations Security Council, of which we are a member. Things that make you go hmmm.....Viva La France!

And here's a perfect example of what happens when you bring political discussion to a message board.

With a quick search it's really simple to find message boards dedicated to political issues.

As I always say, if you don't like the subject, just don't waste time posting negative things about the subject just ignore it.

Hmmm the French make good French toast.

Sorry, but I agree with Kuki. I wouldn't mind discussing things like this in a different setting. In this format, it just seems to frequently lead to misunderstanding or dissension.

Well, I've brought up the same issue when I've seen non-cruise related subjects on here, and I've been told that the "chit-chat board" is what that is for.....

I for one agree that political topics be left to other places.

I still say that if Broccoli was Iraq's main export, neither France nor the U.S. would be interested in fighting to get their exports. Hmmmmmm!

Motives??? Could it be oil as a motive by both countries???

The good, the true, and the beautiful, it ain't necessarily so!

My only comment is that it grinds me that the French get credit for French Fries when everyone know they really are a Belgian invention! They are no more responsible for French Fries than the Italians are for discovering pasta!

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

One should never discuss religion or politics on the Internet or with friends. <G>

JeanS,
I for one am not offended by your post, like I always say if you don't like a subject, just skip over it.

Chill out people, I think she did not intend to offend others, its just her opinion of something, sensitive at that but don't get your feathers ruffled!

Did the Greek invent spaghetti?

pg, did I say everyone agrees w/the States??? Please feel free to post your opinion, that's what this is all about!

And thank you for your common sense, Salem, it's like TV, if you don't like the programming, change the channel! I haven't broken any rules by posting this, I just thought it was fitting as to this time in our lives...

It's like when someone posted something about Scott Peterson on here a long time ago, I made a comment that it didn't have anything to do with cruising, and I was told that that is what the chit-chat board is for....anything that trips your trigger....there have been other posts about people's health statuses, sports, and no one picks on them...

Happy Cruising!

I wasn't offended by the comments. I just wanted to add some thought provoking stimulation to the comments. As one of 50 million Americans with some French heritage, I didn't see any harm in showing pride in that heritage, especially since it's always been such an important part of American history. I happen to agree with the sentiments of Thomas Jefferson, 3rd president of the United States and the man credited for The Declaration of Independence and repeated by President John F. Kennedy, 35th President of the United States when they said," Everyone has two countries- their own and France." That said, I don't see this as being political anymore than the messages I saw talking about President Ronald Reagan's death. I take the same pride in being an American and I don't see that as being a politcal statement either. I just felt the need to respond without being disagreeable, even though I suspected someone might panic at seeing what they perceived as political. People can agree to disagree without being disagreeable.
