Default MT McKinley or Bust

Leaving Homer on tues was a plus as there was little traffic. If there is a line of 5 cars behind you, you have to pull over and let them pass. this was esp. good w/ RV's out and about. we saw many glaciers from the highway on the way back and just before the turn to Portage, we saw a few cars pulled off and people with cameras. turns out there was a brown bear sitting by the side of the road enjoying an afternoon snack.Didn't get out of the car but got some real good pics when we mentioned cookies. Kuki, it was at about this point we also started to see more of your relatives. Some just stating to grow back their horns. Found out moose loose their antlers in the winter. Back into Anchorage at rush hour and yes, traffic is a problem there at 5pm too! dropped jasmine off in Wasilla and headed N to our next destination which was the Mt McKinley princess lodge. Ok, after a couple of days I was ready for this. So what if we were cruising on RCCL. The lodge lived up to all the recommendations and is very family friendly. Complete with a pizza restaurant on site and a playground. Hot tub also which is open to 11pm. The skies cleared so we could get a view of "Denali" and it is breathtaking. as soon as we figure out how to download pix on computer will do so. Also, lots of fellow cruisers there trading stories. Next day we took the kids down to stream to fish and ended up finding gold. that was really cool and also found jade. that's the state gem. No fish but gold and jade. not a bad day. Later, we took the kids on the horse drawn wagon excursion. we all loved it. Got to find out how to really pan fpr gold and had somemores at a bonfire. Finished the evening out w/ some other ladies from our excursion sitting in the hot tub drinking adult beverages. Sorry, no frozen thingees up here, just good hot chocolate w/ bailys and kahlua and bourban. Bugs were not bad. The next morning it was back to Hatcher pass Bn B to pick up dress clothes that we had left there. thanks again Liz and Dan for letting us keep our stuff there. Had to be back in Anchorage to pick up Mom and dad at the airport at 6pm as they flew in to join us on our cruise. Thats the next installment and that will have to wait till later... Bye for now
Anne
