Default Back w/my new monitor . . . . . . . .

I just don't get along with computers! On wednesday morning, I was reading the cruise board messages, and poof.........my monitor went black, then this white line right down the center of it. So............i move my mouse, and nothing,.............I shut down my computer and reboot it, and it has this blue screen with the middle third backwards, and won't work. So.............I guess it broke. So now,...............I have no monitor............. and this monitoris only about 2 years old!

I call my computer expert son to ask him his opinion, (20 and in college for computer science) and he says, I dunno, sounds like it broke, , yea, I know that. So he says he can look at it this weekend when he comes home. So then I call him back later, and ask if the old monitor in the basement can be hooked up to use. (now you know how computer illiterite I am!). And he says, yea, hook it up, and it should work. Well, it is over 5 years old, so I hook it up, and I get like 4 screens of program managers.

So, since I have bothered him at work twice now, I will wait until 5:00 when he gets done. So at 5:10, I call him back, and by now, I am having severe computer withdrawl pains!! (), and tell him the screen has like 4 splits, and he's like the resolution is to high, and tells me in one quick sentence how to fix it, So I am like, duh, what??, so he tells me nice and slow, how to fix it. So I do that and great, it now works. I am a happy camper, even if it is lots smaller.

So come wednesday night at 9:00, I go to connect to cruise chat, and it shuts the program down. So, I have my son on Instant messenger, and ask him the problem, and he says," I dunno, I'm not there to see it." Boy, if I could reach through that computer, I woulda given him a good whippin!

So he tells me to order one online, and it be cheaper, then he tells me to go to Best Buy and get one, it is on sale for $99, with a $20. rebate. So yesterday, I go to the store, buy the new monitor, and the 3 yr. extended warranty (which I never buy) is $29.99, so I call him on his cell to ask him, and he's not there. So I decide for $30., for 3 yrs, I am gonna buy it for myself! So now, we have to go to dinner with our daughter for my hubby's birthday, and guess what? My son calls, and says they (him and his girlfriend) are gonna leave this concert they won tickets to, to come eat with us for Dad's birthday, since of course, we are paying, . So last night we get home at 9:25, and I am sooo tired, I didn't hook up the monitor for cruise chat, and that is all I have to do to be back, I hope! Will be doing that this afternoon after work. Hope it hooks up all ok.

Kids,...........sometimes, we could just wring their necks! But of course we love them!
No matter what they do!

Now my symptoms are going away, as I am catching up on the message boards!

Good to hear from you Deb. I love my computer as long as everything is working well. As soon as there is a problem, I'm lost. It's so great to have those kids to help us out of those technological problems.

Welcome back Deb. I can understand your problems with the computer, I only know how to turn it on and hope it works when I do.

Oh Deb, I can certainly empathize with you, I suffered terible withdrawl when my computer fried itself when we got back from our June cruise. The very worst thing was not being able to tell CruiseMates about my cruise! Welcome back, and hope you can stick around!

Computer literate sons, aren't they great?? Mine answers the same way and he's going to be 33 in a couple of weeks!! He has talked me through the installation of Adaware on his cell phone on his way to work. He had just installed it on his older brother's (35) a couple of weeks before. And, a few years ago, he talked me through the installation process for Free AOL IM, while Hubby was in the other room watching the History Channel. I was so proud of myself.
The computer is like the car. I get in it and drive it, but if it breaks, Hubby gets it fixed. I'm still one of those pampered ones who doesn't pump her own gas, too.

So, the younger boy is due for a visit from Ohio in a couple of weeks, his first in 4-5 years- and he's going to be busy tweaking the Dell, eliminating yet more pop-up ads and, setting the clock on the VCR!!!

I have to say, I can live without the car-we have two-but I can't live without my computer! Lynne
