Default Bermuda Cruise..Part 4

For our first full day in Bermuda, DW would like to go into Hamilton and also check out the Naval Dockyard. After buying one day transportation passes ($12 each), we went to the bus stop to wait for one of the busses that goes into Hamilton. Everybody else had the same idea. The first bus that came through was full, but we got on the second one. A third was filling up as we left the stop. I have to commend the bus drivers, because the roads are the narrowest I have ever been on, and they drive at what seems to be a breakneck speed, but its only about 25mph. (or is it 25 kph?)

The island is so beautiful, but you will have to take my word for it. By the time I could get my camera up, the shot is gone, so no pictures of the countryside. Anyway, after about a dozen stops to pick up passengers on an already full bus (the poor locals), we pulled into Hamilton after an hour's ride.

This was DW's day to do whatever she wanted, so off to the shopping district we go. As we walk down to Front St, I couldn't resist taking a photo of one of Hamilton's finest. I think he took more time to wave at and pose for the visitors than directing traffic. <G>

After walking through every shop in town, we decided to stop for lunch. NCL gives you lunch vouchers (charged to your shipboard account unless you return them to the purser's desk) for several restaurants on the Islands. We chose The Pickled Onion because the first restaurants were quite busy. (What a surprise!)

After lunch, we took the ferry across the bay to the Naval Dockyard. Although it was recommended by a friend of DW's, the sightseeing was limited as was the shopping. After walking around a bit, we decided not to visit the Maritime Museum. It very hot that day, and looking at the hill we had to walk up, we felt that discretion was the better part of valor. Unfortunately, we missed the ferry that goes to St Georges, so back on the ferry to Hamilton and the hour's bus ride back to the ship.

Luckily we missed most of the rainstorms that day because of all the travel time. I guess this is what they mean by an isolated thunderstorm.

After resting for a bit, we had dinner, although we were tempted to stay in Hamilton for what they call Harbour Nights. It is a festival of sorts, with free entertainment, arts & crafts, etc. Maybe the next time, we will pick a cruise that is in port at Hamilton on Wednesdays.

More to follow....

Yes Eddie, I'm enjoying it too. That thunderstorm pic is great! And the port looks busy!
Looking forward to Part 5!
