Default Anyone know the the answer on luggage weight

We are flying from Los Angeles to London on United. We know that the luggage weight is 70 pounds per checked bags.

After the transatlantic cruise we fly out of Newark back to LAX.
There seems to be a dispute that since we are traveling international the 50 pound rule does not apply to us on the return flight.
According to the Continental Rep we are only allowed 50 pounds weight per bag.

We booked Celebrity air, and it has been said that this is considered a international ticket.

Anyone know for sure, hate to get stuck paying the overage weight cost.

The only thing I can tell you is that when we did the Transatlantic we flew to San Juan and then home from London. We were considered international both ways. Now I don't think SJ for us is international but it could be. Hope you can get a more difinitive answer.

Mu daughter traveled from Oklahoma (U.S.) to Germany, then Italy and France and return to Oklahoma, for a european trip this summer. We checked with the airline before traveling and they said the weight limit was 70 lbs for every leg of the trip, including connections within the U.S. This proved to be true for her.

We did Alaska. We flew into Vancouver where the weight was 70 lbs and flew out of Anchorage where the weight was 50 lbs. We had to pay $25 fee for having over weight luggage. Not sure if you will get a good answer on this until you get to the airport.

Steve, as you are not making an international connection at Newark, the 50lb limit should apply.

Thank you everyone. After a lot of phone calls finally got the answer.
We are booked international (cruise/air) and the 50 lbs rule do not apply from Newark back to our home airport after the transatlanic cruise.

The only item is the counter agents are not well informed and the possibility of getting charged can be a reality. The best item is we have names and phone numbers for these agents to contact the ones we spoke with, so we will not be charged over the 50 lbs limit.
Whaaa Whooo.

It just takes perseverance to continue calling and be pleasant.

steve- glad you got the answer
i was going to say that you check in with the 70 lb rule and then you claim your luggage for customs --then its turned right back to the airline to be placed on your last flight- dont remember ever having to go through a weigh in at the usa point of entry --
