Default Falling Overboard

ok, stupid post I know...but I just read an article about a man who fell overboard on a Carnival ship...he bobbed around for 18 hours and was safely plucked from the sea...

Has anyone heard of any man overboard incidents? Do most of these involve drinking?

You would think that this happens rarely, but unfortunatley, in the past 5 yrs or so, it's been often...I cannot believe that these occurences, would occur unless the morons were drinking, lots!.. In one instance, the man had a fight with his wife/girlfriend and before you know it, Poof ,he was over the side..These stories usually have very unhappy endings....a shame....

Considering the number of cruise ships afloat, the ever increasing numbers of passengers carried by all these ships, etc., it is rare for someone to go overboard.

A good common sense rule is that if you keep your feet on the deck, then your butt won't flop overboard.

Jane:
Almost all of these incidents involve alcohol and/or they are intentional. It is almost impossible to accidently fall overboard. People climb up on railings or act basically stupid. On the Serenade of the Seas a man did it on a dare. They had to go into their man overboard procedures and he was picked up. The Captain told us about this incident. This was the only time I saw him look angry. The person and the rest of his group were put off the ship, fined and prosecuted.

Take care,
Mike
