I was on the Carribean Princess 9/18/04. When we left Mexico, we stopped at the Camen Island and Princess Cruise Lines donated several things to them. I think it was 126 skids. Clothes, generators, food, water, ect. We were there for about 6 hours I think. Boats just came up to the ship and they loaded things on them. It looked really sad there. The trees looked like they had been burned no leaves. Roofs off buildings, ect. They also took up a donation from the passengers to give to them. It was pretty nice.
It was sad not to see the welcoming fascades of the buildings we're used to seeing when we tendered in--Richards, Hard Rock Cafe, etc. Also, it looked as if the welcoming terminal wasn't there, either. Georgetown is one of my favorite stops for sentimental reasons, so it was very sad and depressing to see the destruction. I thought it was wonderful for the ship to stop there. I wonder if others were doing the same-it's a great way to deliver humanitarian supplies.I wasn't aware of the donations from passengers, however.Perhaps it was in the Princess Patter and I missed it.
We're going to go out for Trevor's birthday. Lynne
