Default Comment Cards

I was just reading on the entertainment board about how comment cards are handled, that they really are read, and so forth. I imagine they are read, so I always try to oblige the readers with a comments that are serious, but that could bring a smile.

On our last Celebrity cruise they were introducing a new production show which was long on production values, but very, very short on concept and writing. It was some sort of goofy "around the world" thing, with lame original music mixed up with some great standard songs. The show band didn't play at all--the orchestra was 100% tracked, and the whole thing had a very canned feel.

I said on the comment card that I walked out during the pirate ship scene, when a bunch of people in pirate costumes started singing "I Got Rhythm." I noted on the card that Mr. Gershwin, from his grave, could be heard saying, "HUH?" I also said that when my wife (who didn't attend the show) later asked me what it was about, I said it was about 40 minutes.

After I walked out of that show I went to Michael's Pub where Jeff Hughes and some members of the show band were playing a jazz set. Much better.

So, let's hear your most strongly felt words from your recent comment cards. While I'm sure it's true that people read them, I'm also sure that the pirates will be singing "I Got Rhythm" for years to come!

My comment cards generally discuss service issues.... both good and bad. If there are people who have gone "above and beyond" to make my cruise experience better, I make a point of naming them.

The positive comments from these cards have more to do with their staff evaluations than most of us would ever think.

The same is true of negative comments. If someone needs more training, then I believe it's important to point that out.

On our last RCI cruise I also pointed out that they seem to have slid down the "cruise food chain" to the point of standing on probably the lowest rung on the ladder... the good news being the fall from that point won't hurt much because the fall will be short.

And I thought their infamous "ranch steak" was made from the clay on the ranch, rather than the cattle.

On the Navigator, this past August, they made a big deal of comment cards, then didn't have enough to go around.
Guess they didn't care what we had to say after all.
Funny part is we kept a small list along the cruise of folks we wanted to compliment and thoughts we wanted to share,

When filling out comment cards, name names. Especially for good service.

Kuki: I think the ranch steak wasn't the clay from the field but rather some other thing that was picked up in the field. <VBG> I do agree that the RCI food in the main dining room was about the least enjoyable of any food we have had on a cruise, except the desserts. This was reflected on the comment card.

I usually don't reflect humor in the comment card. The cruise lines take them seriously therefore I try to be serious and objective when filling them out. Humor can often be misunderstood. That is why, here on the boards, people rarely know what I'm talking about.

Take care,
Mike

We always fill out the comment cards, but sometimes don't remember names. I think the cruiselines should give their staff "business cards" to hand out if cruisers ask for them so that we can compliment the people we like. On our last cruise I had to write down our wonderful waitress' name (had no idea how to spell it!) Then again, maybe people would use them to complain instead, so the staff wouldn't like that!

Fern:
Your wait team and cabin steward are on record so their names are linked to your cabin number. It is people at the Customer Service desk, bar tenders, CD staff, or anyone else that it is nice to put their names on the comment card. The comment card does get read and people are recognized by their supervisors for exceptional service.

Take care,
Mike

Mike,
Sorry, I forgot to specify I was talking about the Bar/Casino waitress. I LOVE to fill out comment cards for good service. I also "over tip" according to some people, but if someone remembers what we drink, and how quickly, I'm really appreciative! (We also added to the tip for the steward and waitstaff.) My TA was horrified that we tipped extra for them and for drinks when there was already a tip added, but if you have great service I think tipping a little more is a nice thing to do. We tip more than the automatic tip amounts when we go out at home or visit a casino in Tunica, so why not when we're on a cruise? I'm sure they don't make much even with the tip "added in". (Can you tell I have a very good friend who was a waitress for years?!) I am curious though, are the automatic tips pooled and anything extra not?
