We returned to the real world this morning. Landed at Newark Liberty at 5:30 am. I am actually typing this from work.
Despite the delay it turned out to be the Great Alaska and West Coast Adventure after all. Lots to tell about Vancouver (thanks Brenda) , Whistler, Summit , Alaska, Victoria, San Fran and SanDiego. We went for all extremes from temps below freezing to mid 80's and sunshine. Mountains, valleys, waterfalls, fjords, glaciers, whales , sea lions, seals, salmon, orcas , snow, sunshine, mexican dancers Pacific beaches and even aircraft carriers on parade( and more). We are purely exhausted from sooooo much good stuff.
We've missed you all and I will start posting an account of this grand vacation as soon as possible. Photos will take some time. I have over 900 digital shots, about 2 hours of video and about 5 to 600 shots on film.
Highlights , two , but dozens of great experiences.1) Sitting on a motionless ship just off Hubbard Glacier watching multiple calvings and hearing the sounds like rolling thunder come accross to the ship and 2)sitting amoung the three resident pods of orca
off the San Juan Islands , all 82 whales swimming by our tour boat at the same time.
Ever see an eagle eat a salmon from 10 feet away? Or watch the "beachmaster" Stellar sea lion fight the younger male for the affections of his harem?
I've been up since Sunday morning so I'm falling asleep as I write this.
Details of Vancouver and Whistler tomorrow.
Hard to catch up on the reading here today. I hope you all have been safe from the hurricanes, earthquakes and volcano eruptions that have been little more than
quick news flashes on CNN to us .
