Jack Daniels or Coca Cola?
Do you booze when you cruise? Plan your consumption around port stops, to restock?

Or do you calculate whether the soda card is a worthwhile "investment"?
Or (horrors) just survive on Lido Brand iced tea?
Or are you that special life form that drinks the ship's tap water?

Since I discovered I have gout, my days of JD & beer are history.
It's Diet Pepsi Twist now.
(Good luck finding that on a ship, Mr. Cynic... I had a good laugh on my last cruise trying to order a "root beer".... you gotta try it, the blank stares are PRICELESS!!!)

Re: Jack Daniels or Coca Cola?
Good questions.

I am a hard core Coke drinker. I will calculate the price of the soda card, however I prefer bottled over gun soda. Royal Caribbean's is too high. $7 a day for gun soda is too high for me.

We usually pick up a couple of bottles liquor onboard or in port if it is a decent price. We don't stock up the liquor closet because it isn't worth lugging it home.

I do enjoy a root beer but have never thought to order one. I bet many of the bar staff may give you a funny look if you ordered one.

Take care,

Re: Jack Daniels or Coca Cola?
Just for the record, I am a Coke fan. Don't try to pass off a Pepsi as Coke with me, because I CAN tell the difference!
However, on a cruise, I am quite happy with the "Lido Lemonade". Don't like the Iced Tea, as it is weak and sugarless. I have only bought the soda card for Tyler, because he is the big soft drink drinker, and that card is worth every penny for him!

Re: Jack Daniels or Coca Cola?
I usually stick with the Lido Ice tea with lemon and sweetner. At dinner, I enjoy a nice glass of wine and maybe a Kaulah (sp?) coffee & cream after dinner. Sometimes if we go to a lounge to listen to the music, I will order the fru fru drink of the day.

We've never brought any liquor on board. For the little we drink, it's just as easy to buy it on the ship.

My hubby drinks the soda during the day and will indulge in the some nice wine in the evenings.

Re: Jack Daniels or Coca Cola?
I like Coke, but don't buy the soda card. Just need 2 or 3 Cokes per cruise to satisfy
my "fix". I prefer the Lido lemonade over the tea. And I usually have some frou frou drinks.

Re: Jack Daniels or Coca Cola?
I am a Diet Coke drinker and we took a couple of six packs on board. I did have a couple of drinks of the day and a few pina coladas..Not a big alcohol drinker but do like a social drink now and then. We did drink a lot of the ice tea on board and that is what the DW likes, along with the juices.

Re: Jack Daniels or Coca Cola?
We are big fans of Diet Coke and usually get the soda card - seems to save us money in the long run. The shipboard water does have alot to be desired but then what tap water doesn't. We are use to getting the looks when we just order diet cokes - so be it.

Re: Jack Daniels or Coca Cola?
Diet coke - same for dh. My son is a sprite, orange soda boy.

We bought sodas cards for each of them last cruise, but I only drink 1 or 2 per day, so it's not worth it for me.

Don't bring liquor onboard - just seems like too much trouble to go back to your room everytime you want a drink. Plus, I drink the frou frou drinks on a cruise. Odd, I don't drin them anywhere else.....

A few rum drinks and of course, a few beers and I'm happy!

Why make a decision? Jack Daniels and Coke. <VBG>

Take care,

Re: Jack Daniels or Coca Cola?
Not a drinker here. Iced Tea works fine for me when available or Coke at other times. Will have maybe one or two Strawberry Dacquari's on a 7 day cruise. Don't buy the soda card.

Re: Jack Daniels or Coca Cola?
Just to clarify.... the stares when I asked for root beer were not of the shocked variety, they were of the clueless type. "What's a root beer?" "Is regular beer okay? (as a substitute lol)"

Re: Jack Daniels or Coca Cola?
My dh likes Dr. Pepper.. <ugh>
I like coke cola, not the diet.
this cruise I ordered the variety of liquor for the cabin, a bottle of champagne for our special dinner in the alternative dining room, and the rest ot the time. I bring pre mixed long island ice tea (gin, rum, vodka, triple sec, tiquela) mix it with coke for the L I I T or the lido lemon aid for a Ca lemonaid. no problem, mon
this sounds like we are alcholics, but when you meet friends and like to party its good to have something specal
p.s this is the only time we drink this much

Re: Jack Daniels or Coca Cola?
Have u tried to mix the lemonade and the fruit punch half and half. its a great drink to sit by the pool with. I used to get a soda card. But its a hassle to keep getting a waiter to get one for me. then its jsut a small glass and i wnat another one right away. So i do this now and drink all i want. also take a large water bottle and mix one up with ice too.. then off to the pool for me. Happy cruising.....

Re: Jack Daniels or Coca Cola?
DH and i share a soda card (gasp). I have to have a couple of glasses of ginger ale on the first day to ease the tummy. Sometimes all you want is a soda. We love the drink of the day, especially by the pool or in the hot tub. I usually have a glass of wine or an Absolut and tonic with a twist of lemon with dinner. The tap water is good if you chill it.
Lido deck Iced Tea is good with sugar and lemon.

Re: Jack Daniels or Coca Cola?
For me, a cruise is my opportunity to alter my drinking patterns completely. At home I drink a lot of carbonated sodas, mixed occasionally with rum, gin or bourbon. And a cold beer is also a frequent beverage of choice.

On cruises, however, I stick pretty much with iced tea and lemonade (the cheap stuff). We don't frequent the lounges, and the only place I might enjoy an occasional diet drink is in the casino. In the dining room, I drink only iced water or tea. This rather strange (for me) behavior has somehow helped me to lose about two pounds on each of our last four cruises. Go figure!
