Mentally, when does the "Holiday Season" start for you? Is there a date, like Halloween or Thanksgiving that triggers it... or an event... like the end of the world series<G> that kicks you into "Holiday Season" mode?
Usually right after deer season is over with...then comes thanksgiving and that will set the tone for the season. This year there will be a cruise in between the seasons so that is what I am looking for.
Holiday season? OMG, I haven't even thought about that! Let's get through Thanksgiving and Halloween first! Every year I promise myself I will start shopping early, and every year about 1/2 through Dec. I panic!
Actually right about now i start organizing for my holiday baking, that i give as gifts. I start watching the grocery sales for basic items and usually start baking the end of this month. We start organizing the decorations for the outdoor displays the begining of November so that they are ready to be lit the day after Thanksgiving.
I start getting into the holiday spirit around the middle of November - I try to get the bulk of my shopping done before then. It swings into high gear during Thanksgiving. Panic hits mid December. I'm in Chaotic mess stage the week before Christmas, vowing never to wait til the last minute again. The day after Christmas I sick and overwhelmed.
I undecorate after New Year's Day. Even through the stress I love it , love the family times, the music, the lights, the sounds and smells. Can't wait for the excitement to begin.
Thanks for the reminder, I have to see where I put the Christmas cards and lists. Put them in a place I wouldn't forget.... guess who forgot? <<<<<<BS>>>> Right after Thanksgiving, it seems to be over so soon that a month is just the right length for us.
Holiday season really starts for us of the Jewish persuasion in September! I call it the "bam-bam" season. Rosh Hashana (Jewish New Year) is in September (usually) - then BAM Kom Kippur right away and BAM Sukkot and before you know it BAM Halloween (a secular holiday, but one of my favs), BAM Thanksgiving, and this year at least BAM Hannuakah on Dec. 8th!
Whew! I feel as though I am in a whirlwind under January!!

The holiday season always started with Thanksgiving for us. Late hubby & I were married Thanksgiving eve 1969 and we found this time period a good frequently discounted travel time when the parents could easily babysit. Parents anniversary was 12/13 ( mom passsed away 1/04). I could go nearly 5 weeks with vry little cooking.
Christmas season starts after Remembrance Day(Nov.11). I can get out the Xmas music tapes, Xmas childrens books, maybe do a bit of inside decorationg.Tree goes up as early as possible (so it is not a fire hazard by Jan. 1st though!!lol). We have a biggish Douglas Fir outside that we may be using as our Xmas tree this year!!
I am like Lisa when I start thinking about Xmas baking ingredients.I like to have the outside lights/decorations up and ready to turn on Dec.1!!
I told the girls that we will not be getting much for Xmas-as our cruise is part of our Xmas gift to each other!! We do not have a huge amount of people to buy gifts for, so shopping will not be too bad this year!!
I LOVE Christmas time!!

VALOR Jan/05-our first family cruise was great!
Every day is a holiday around here. <VBG> I haven't even thought about getting the house decorated for Halloween. I've got to buy pumpkins this weekend. Then the witch makes an appearance. Then the goblins, spiderwebs, and skeleton. Oh, you mean the Christmas season! Our church choir has already started practicing the music for Midnight Mass, so we are way ahead of the curve. Personally, the decorations go up usually after the first snowfall, and the shopping starts around the 20th. Why hurry?

MikeM! Living with you would certainly be a "pain". I bet Betty's sides ache from laughing 24/7.
Well, I can tell you the holiday season does NOT start for me in September when all the stores seem to think it does. Thanksgiving turkeys and Christmas trees don't do a thing for me when it's still 100 degrees outside!
By the first of November I'm starting to t h i n k about it, by Thanksgiving I'm getting in the mood, and by the week before Christmas I'm in a panic.
Wish I had funds to take the entire family on a cruise every year and leave the work of the festivities behind!
For some reason, right after Halloween, the holiday bugs gets under my skin. The weather change can do it earlier if there's a bit of cool in the air. By November, I'm in baking mode & making hot homemade soups & stews. My family loves it , the pounds just hover all summer & wait for me to get started so they can light! There's just something about November & December that really does it for me. The world just seems to be a kinder & gentler place. Cathy
