Captain Steubing is on the Grand Princess in Galveston live, right this minute on tv..The Love Boat is how I first got interested in cruising...I tried to search online to see if the show is in reruns right now, and it looked like it's not... Is this show still on? Any other ardent fans of this hokey, but lovable show know? I used to watch and see if this Gucci carryon would be in the episode..invaribly it was....And so many of the cruisers dressed so formally while by the pool Too bad lifes problems could not be solved in an hour, as they were on the show! From Ceasar Romero, to Carol Channing, Betty White to Joanne Worley, the older Hollywood crowd had a second coming, and I loved it all Were you a fan, or a secret fan?

Sorry Trip, I was NOT a fan of the Love Boat. My friend was. That is the friend I went on my only previous cruise(for our 40th birthdays) and yes, we were on a "Love Boat" (actually the Sea Princess). It was so funny when we left FLL, they played the Love Boat theme on deck!! I thought it was quite amusing.

VALOR Jan/05-our first family cruise was great!
Love Boat came out just before my first cruise. I was so excited. I had to watch every episode. While we were on the first cruise there were some executives aboard from ABC-TV. Little did we know then they were negotiating the use of TSS Festivale for an episode of "Charlies Angels"

Yes, I too was a fan. It was on again a few months ago on TVLand, but I notice that it's not in the line-up right now.
About a year ago we were on Adventure of the Seas and when we docked in St. Maarten we looked out our balcony and there was the old Pacific Princess docked next to us. She now belongs to Pullmantur tours. They just painted over "Princess" everywhere and left up "Pacific". But it was definitely her. You could tell by the shape of the pool on the aft of the ship and pool bar....no sign of Isaac though
I used to love that show too! and ever since, have always wanted to cruise. They made it look so fun. I'll finally get my chance next Aug. which we're so excited about!
Loved it too - wish we could get it in re-runs. It was definately NOT a reality show lol. Just fluff - but it always ended on a happy note. We need more of that these days. TTFN Jennifer
Yep,,,I always watched it too, and even though "Big John" was in love with Julie, I knew that she was "the one for me". I've noticed that in Karaoke on the Princess ships they have the "Love Boat Theme", but I can never find it on the other lines. I have found it from time to time on TV Land.
Happy cruising,
Ken
I have seen re-runs but I forget which channel, what I call a pre-senior moment!!! :-)
I loved the Love Boat, never missed it and I remember visiting my parents and they were watching it, too! My dad enjoyed it more than my mom, I think!
My first cruises back in early 80's were on NCL but it didn't take me long to try Princess! After being on NCL, when I stepped on the Royal Princess I thought I was in heaven!!!
This was 1986 and I thought the playing of the theme song was so cool! Of course, we threw streamers back then, just like on the TV Show! Remember, I was in my 30's! :-)
I have'nt heard the theme song played on Princess Cruises for a while. I wonder if they stopped it after they sold the original Pacific Princess and the Island Princess?
Loved that show. It always amazed me now how big the cabins were on a small ship like the Pacific princess. And how the bartender could be in a different bar at any given time.
I. too, was a regular viewer. The other gal--the niece ?-was married on the Caribbean Princess in port in Ft. Lauderdale in April for the Innaugaural sailing. Pictures were on the Webcam. I liked the photographer, Ted McGinley, who later went to Married, With Children. He was a guest on several shows back then.
But, wait, the New Love Boat series came out a few years ago, with Robert Ullrich as the Capt. He had a cool son, too, who called his father "Capt.Dad". I even found a t-shirt with that on it! I watched because of our cruises. Our first one was on the Sun Princess in 1998. The Love Boat Theme was played on that one, but more recently, "Time to Say Good-bye" by Andrea Boccelli was playing. The Captains are usually Italian, remember, and the ships are built in Italy.
I don't remember any song being played on the Caribbean Princess in Sept. but several of us were at the aft pool during sailaway. According to the Cruise Video-Reflections, it looked as if there was a conga line going.
I really enjoyed all the old Love Boat shows! Lynne
