Default What to do for Christmas?

We would like to go away for Christmas where we find snow. $$$$ is tight and we can't go to germany. Does anyone know of a nice log cabin somewhere? We need ideas! We would most likely not fly since its too expensive< now that we have 2 more members> We don't want Christmas in Florida...

How 'bout the mountains of Eastern Tenn. or Western NC. You should find cabins reasonable. We were just there in Oct. (peak season) & rented a 3 bdrm for < $100/nite.

We've got the "greatest snow on earth" here in utah! although this would be a LONG drive if you didn't fly.

Come on up to my place! We'll have plenty of snow! I know you can rent some very nice chalets (cottages) up in the Laurentians, north of Montreal. Long drive for you though....

I'm sure if you go to the Vermont State tourism website you'd find plenty to choose from.

Come on up to WI, Sue. I can't promise snow for Christmas though. Many times that is the time we don't have any around.

I never thought I'd see you asking to go somewhere cold and wet. That old nostalgia can really get to you can't it. I really missed the cold northern atmosphere around the holidays last year. Looks like I get to experience once again, and I'm not sure I really mind it all that much.

Phyll

For those who invited us I am waiting for a limo and a place <BG> Phyll, I am sure you will like Christmas this year. Yes, I do miss the snow and everything that we used to do up north. If I would find some cheap flight tickets I would go to Germany but it is not in our cards this year. I will research and give an update if I find anything within a reasonable budget. Thanks mates And no I am not interested in a cruise at all. This sounds scary but I think I kissed cruising good bye!

Sue, sorry to hear you may no longer be cruising. Maybe try another cruise line? The time will come when you'll want to book another cruise, I'm sure.

I was going to suggest the North Carolina/Tennessee mountains myself. My parents have vacationed there many times and loved it. It's well within driving distance from Florida.

The Asheville area is especially pretty. Here's their visitor's bureau website.

Here's a link about Great Smoky Mountains National Park in Tennessee.

Good luck and let us know what you decide.

Cheers,
Michelle P.

Sue, I grew up in Asheville, N.C. and while it's a beautiful place and the moutains to the west are wonderful, there is only a slight chance of snow around Christmas. A little farther north, say around Boone or Banner Elk you will have a better chance but it's still questionable. The ski resorts will be open in Banner Elk, i.e. Sugar Mountain and Beech, but usually the snow is mostly manmade that time of year. I know because I used to work at Beech on the Ski Patrol.

Good luck.

Regards,
Thomas
