Default Sports fans that throw beer on players deserve to get beat u

As some of you know the biggest injustice was done when the NBA suspended four Indiana Pacers players for jumping into the stands and fighting with fans. Fans don't have the right to get involved in what is happening on the NBA floor. Piston fans stepped over the line when beer was thrown on Ron Artest whom was doing nothing but removeing himself from the situation. IMO when a fan crosses the line and provokes a player he deserved to get his butt kicked. If that fan wouldn't of thrown a beer on Ron Artest this I wouldn't even be saying this but SHAME on those Piston fans SHAME SAHAME SHAME.

Too much violence already....they certainly deserve to be charged with trespassing, barred from the venue, or other penalties. IMHO

We were watching that game. What a shame any of it had to happen at all. Unfortunately that sort of thing is happening all too often these days. I do hope the"fan" has been dealt with also. Both teams, especially the Pacers will pay a high price for the poor sportsmanship of that fan. As a long time Celtics fan I used to attend many games at the long gone Boston Gardens and never once did I ever see something like that. Too much violence.

No, the fan does not deserve to be punched or beaten for that. In addition the player also does not deserve to be attacked ion any manner, even having a drink tossed on him. This is supposed to be a civilized world and people are supposed to follow the laws and mores that are set up for the good of all. That is why we have police and courts to enfore the laws of this nation. These participants need to be arrested and fined and/or put in jail for their actions. In addition someone making literally millions of dollars for playing a game should be held to a higher standard as they are a role model weather they like it or not and are paid more than enough to insure proper behaviour. Too often people think it is okay or even cool for high paying sports player or music types or other entertainmnet type people to act badly and/or illegally. It isn't and it is a disgrace.

I am tired of fans who think they can get drunk and abusive without any penalty. They NEVER get caught and punished. Security at pro basketball games is a joke! What security they have will not get involved - fearing their own safety. It is time for the teams and the league to step up and start holding fans accountable for their actions - just because they pay for a ticket does not give them the right to break the law.

There is a fine line between cheering for your team, good natured ribbing of another team and downright abuse. It is time that that line becomes very clear.

No Jim I completely disagree. Ron Artest was content on letting the situation cool down maybe he would of got a flagrant foul. Ben Wallace would of shot some free throws, Pistons get the ball make a basket and then Indiana lets the time run out. What this fan did was take it upon himself attack Artest. We must also remember these incidents:
Like the fan that attacked Gamboa on the Royals. Gamboa's hearing is messed up for life. Also the psycho who attacked Monica Seles. He ruined her career. Fans are like the media. They have zero accountability. Since these fans aren't dealt with in the judicial system.

First of all, nobody knows if the fan was drunk so to say so is only speculation and not fact.

Second, Ron Artest has no reason to go into the stands and attack another human being. Nobody "deserves" to get beat up as you say. The fan needs to be dealt with by security, i.e. escorted out of the building, forfeit his season ticket if he owns one, and prosecuted according to the laws of the state.

Third, the seats need to be relocated so the court and stands are separated by physical barriers which would prevent the interaction between players and fans.

Fourth, the leagues need to realize sportsmanship on the court or field will mirror sportsmanship in the stands. If they get violent on the playing surface the same behavior will manifest itself in the stands.

Fifth, it's only a game. The players are entertainers. Some people live their lives around wins and losses of their teams. The sports fans need to de-emphasize the importance of their sports passion as it compares to their lives.

Regards,
Thomas

I am not the debate type but this is my opinion on the whole situation..the law was broken by the ball players and the law was broken by the fans..THE LAW should deal with both sides equally and to the full extent..Make an example out of these fools and maybe by chance this kind of action will not happen again..It is sad that in a game, and it is ONLY a game, that players and fans act like this.In my book..these are not fans.

Im a HUGE NBA fan,or should I say Rocket fan! First of all..I missed that game,so I only saw the reruns.I really didnt see the hard foul on Ben Wallace.BUT,I was totally shocked when he went for Rons throat! It should have ended there, but it didnt.Ron made a bad situation worse when he went after the obnoxious fans, not to mention the INNOCENT bystander.I find ALL that were throwing punches or beer, etc to be at fault, and the law should deal with them ALL.Having said that..I think that a lot of the problem is that SOME sports figures have gotten away with WAY too much bad behavior. Its time to put a stop to it, NO ONE is above the law even IF they are great at their sport! Fans cannot be allowed to act the way they did.I think David Stern has his hands full!

All in all I think it is a reflection of the pathetic state of many of the fans and many of the players.

It is also a flagrant example of alcohol abuse. That was perfectly good beer that he threw. vbg

Take care,
Mike(Who still says it is a sad reflection of some sad people)

So the disgusting lowlife who threw the drink on Artest has been identitifed. Turns out he has been arrested before for assault and TWICE for DUI....what a winner, huh?? NOT!!! He says he doesn't even remember the incident, hopefully they arrest his sorry a## and throw him in jail and give him a hefty fine also.

Also, unfortunately Artest attacked the WRONG fan...that dude did not throw the drink, it was the guy who grabbed Artest from behind and began throwing punches...

How many people think drinking should be TOTALLY banned at these games??

Fans and athletes out of control...it makes me sick... add beer and watch this type of stuff happen again and agian at all types of pro sporting events..
I think fans and players should go to jail. These days the atmosphere at pro events is so crude that it's you can't take the kids/ wife or friends without vulgar and or drunks going off around you.
People that cannot obey the decent rules of conduct should be quickly escourted out the door.(IMHO)

Had this fan walked up in a bar and threw a beer at Artest and Artest decked him he would of been arrested but later released on self defense. The whole incident was with Artest and Wallace, if Artest hit Wallace then I could agree but a fan took it on himself to get involved and claim on ESPN he had no idea what happened, he was trying to be a peacemaker, wrong he is a troublemaker.

First off, you do have the right to legally defend yourself from any kind of assault, no matter the kind. However, you cannot take the term self-defense to mean you have the right of handing out a Judge Dread style whooping to anyone who does you wrong. Throwing a cup of beer or water on someone does not require that person to attack anyone holding a beer in the immediate area at random. The fans posed no immediate threat of immenent danger to Ron Artest other than possibly deflating his overinflated ego. With that said, these fans are idiots along with any other person of society stupid enough to throw what were probably 4-6 dollar drinks to waste on a piece of garbage player such as Ron Artest (yeah, and throwing stuff on people in general is ridiculous too). I think it's safe to say that everyone involved in that incident (be it the fans, players, hot dog venders, whoever) stepped way over the lines of human decency and should be placed in an experimental eugenics program immediately. Otherwise these people will be throwing their kids on the court when they can no longer afford to buy these overpriced concessions because of their "mistake".
