Don't feel bad, I do the same things. I get real inspired, think I'll be real creative and then once I've jumped in with both fee, YIKES! The first step is the scariest.

Have fun with your new machine. Make sure you take a picture of what you make so we can see your progress. It does sound like it would be a lot of fun. And you do need something to look forward too while recovering. I know I did.

Glad you were able to get a hold of the instruction manual. It sounds like a fun thing to play with while you recooperate. Maybe there is a tech college near you that will offer classes to help you really get the hang of it if you find that the book alone isn't enough. I know what you mean about getting inspired and then finding it too difficult, but hang in there and have fun with it. Like Jen said, post some pictures of your new creations once you get going.

Steph, try going on line to find the manual. You could download it to your computer and print it out if you wanted to. Give you a little more time to play with it.

One of our volunteers at the facility where I work has a fancy machine like yours. She is whipping out all sorts of designs on towels, hats, etc. Her daugher, who is also an avid sewer and more into computer generated programs showed her how to work it and now my lady is going to town. She even makes earrings!! Have yourself a wonderful time with your new "toy".
Rie has a good idea-try going on line to find the manual. It will save you a few hours and you will be ahead of the game for Monday and know what you're reading by then! Lynne

My bestfriend in Pittsburgh has an embroidery machine and does lots of sewing. I know she has taken classes at the store where she purchased the machine. Maybe you could check into that.

I had a Janome 6500 and now I upgraded it to a Bernina 440 .. I would use the Bernina stitch regulator if using machine quilt withit. I use a handi quilter 16 for quilting...now...is it good ????

Which Machine did you get. I have a singer futura. It's also a embroidery machine. I also haven't turned it on. I will soon. Most places that sell these machines offer new owner classes. I got mine and Joanne Fabrics the classes are included. Youtube is also a great source of information. I do know you need a tear away stabilizer in order to do the embroidery. There is one with adhesive, but I have heard that one can mess up your machine. Also you need special thread either polyester orRAYON 40weight. My machine has patterns pre set in it this list the thread colors and order you will use them. I hope that helps. I haven't turned on my machine yet so I'm still learning. Different fabrics use different Stablizers and hooping methods. So start with a test piece.

Well I reply then read the comments. This is an old thread. She has probably made a ton of things by now. I got quite a ways through a quilt I was so bored in recovery.:-D Oh well I have one more big block left and then I turn on the sewing machine. It should be interesting.
