Default Ugly cruise ships

I have just seen the ugliest funnel on a cruise ship ever, which was parked up in Wellington today.
Its on the "MAXIM GORKI" and looks like it doubles as a helicopter pad??

I was going to take a photo myself but thought my camera would break.

Can anyone beat this ugliness?

i agree, not very appealing to the eye, but it would still be a cruise on a ship and that would make up for the look of the ugly thing.

Thank you Sharon.
Once again I have been reminded that I should think before posting as that is a very valid point.
I should be ashamed .
But it did put a shiver up my spine this morning when I saw it.

Last time it was in NZ it was on a German charter cruise in 1999.

In designing one must exploit every possibilities.
So it is just exploiting every possible design of a cruise ship's funnel. It is an adventure. I will say the design may not be that appealing to the eyes but it is one of the most interesting I've seen.
There must be a reason or logic why the funnel was design this way.

You're right, pretty strange, almost looks like a UFO landing pad! Have a few drinks, looking up at it, could be the subject of many conversations!!! :-)

I also have sailed next to that ship and that funnel does look crazy.

I think it's almost like they tried to make it look more futuristic. Kinda what the 1940's version of the future would be.

The AMC pacer of cruise ships!

lombard

i was not criticizing really. the ugly was making me laugh as a matter of fact. i was just saying for myself, just being on a ship ( no matter how strange ) the thrill of the cruise would be worth it. i did not mean to seem nasty hehehehe.

On the outside it looks like a cruise ships, but it's really an early warning system to alert the coast guard if an enemy submarine is on our coast

That's just weird. What in the world do they use it for and why? I can see a railing around it but unless there is some way to access this area, (and i'm sure there is somehow), then it makes no sense. Crew only deck? Helipad? Which would seem strange as they would have to climb steps or ladders to get there.
