Default POLL-- Do you think JEANS really are comfortable??

Cruising.. not cruising.. it doesn't really matter.

Do you really find jeans comfortable, or more comfortable than "dockers" or Kahkis..or track suit style slacks??

I've never really found denim to be all that comfortable, and it always amazes me when people say they wear them because they are so comfortable.

What am I missing??

Lee jeans are fairly comfortable, Levis are not but neither are as comfortable as Dockers.

I have to say yes but they are warmer and heavier than khakis.

I don't like them in Caribbean or warm climates but if you are doing active or outdoor (I don't mean golf) activities, they are durable and comfortable. I don't think I would want to go hiking or mow my lawn in Dockers. If you get jeans that fit and are pre-washed, I feel that in Fall and Winter they are almost as comfortable as a pair of khakis.

Dockers or khakis are great for casual wear for business or for leisure wear but that is about it.

Jeans are also low maintenance. Most Dockers and khakis require ironing, are not as stain resistant. Face it, if you stain them you don't wear them. You can wear a pair of jeans with a small stain but not a pair of light colored Dockers.

That's my opinion.

Never wear them. Just dress slacks and shorts around the ship during the day.

Oh Trip,
Not the Sans a belts, . I actually am one of those "jean" people. There is nothing more comfortable for me than a good pair of levi's, not brand new or thread bare either, just nice and worn, I wear them all the time, but thats just me. I was never into the jogging pants either, while also comfortable, I just never felt comfortable wearing them to go shopping, etc.

No question the denims are a durable material, and will take a beating, hunting and fishing etc... but I'm trying to figure out why people say they are comfortable.

What are you missing Kuki? The word is LYCRA. The stuff that makes jeans s-t-r-e-t-c-h
with you when you move. Also allows for waistline expansion after the buffet or BBQ!
I have found the most comfortable stretch jeans at L'Equippeur (also known in the rest of Canada as Mark's Work Warehouse). I wear jeans to work alot, because I am always on the floor with the kiddies, and I get paint and glue and playdough all over my clothes, so I don't "dress up" for work!
I also wear 'em on the weekend - just give me a good pair of jeans and I'm happy!

Kuki,

Comfort is as much in the mind as it is on the body.

There are also degrees of comfort. While a pair of khakis may be a bit more comfortable to travel in I will say I have traveled comfortably in a well fitting pair of jeans. What do I mean by comfort? You basically are unaware that they are there.

Take care,
Mike (Who doesn't really think anyone should have to lay down to zip their jeans) <VBG>

I wear them in the home for housework. I don't find them too comfortable or attractive but good enough for housework. I think the material fades and wears out fast. I guess I am trying to say, I dont like dungarees much.

I find if you get STRETCH jeans they are comfortable. Especially for us who have "grown" over the years. The most comfortable pair I own are Faded Glory stretch jeans from of all places, WalMart. They also come in 3 or 4 different colors.

I think they are comfortable if they are the stretch kind..I love to travel in them and work in the yard..for the buffet, I prefer the streeeeeetch band dockers.>G< At one time in my life, I had over 50 pairs of jeans and no dress pants(truck driving days) and swore that no one should ever bury me in a suite. I still dont want to be buried in a suite. Just lay me away in my comfy stretch jeans, not that I plan on stretching out in the box.>VBG<

I agree that jeans aren't the most comfortable, but I wear them in the winter and fall. Living in the south (Atlanta) it always blows my mind to see people wear them year round!

Jeans and a nice warm sweater, okay for a cold day (especially those stretch jeans that don't *look* like stretch jeans). But jeans when it's 98 and the humidity is 97%? No way!

On a cruise? Never!

I think they're very comfortable. Much more than khakis since khakis require so much more maintenance. You can sleep in jeans and they still look the same. And with jeans you can wear any type or color of shirt and you won't be arrested by the fashion police.

Regards,
Thomas

I like my jeans too. I do buy the ones with a little stretch in them and elastic waistband. Not very fashionable and chic, but very comfortable, and like Thomas said you can wear any color top with them. I really didn't wear them in Florida because I found it too hot for them down there.

On a cruise I generally don't bring jeans because, if they get dirty, when washing them, they do not dry quickly. I bring light weight fabric pants that wash and dry easily so that I do not have to overpack. The more I cruise the less clothing I bring. Let's face it, I would rather fill my luggage with things I buy in the various ports rather than with clothing! Light weight pants, with a stretch waste, are the most comfortable for me.

I have to wear jeans because of my work. As soon as I get home off they go. Mine have the stretch stuff in them but they are not the most comfortable pair of slacks that I own. Slacks are definately more comfortable, but jeans are more durable.

I don't even own a pair of jeans -- they are much to heavy for me.

My most confy pair of pants are cottons ones with a drawstring (very useful on a cruise). Next up is a pair of khakis, which I live in work-wise.

Not me for jeans. I am 58 nearly 59. I NEVER wore jeans even as a 20/30 something. Own 1 pr jeans for houscleaning/painting. Own 1 jean suit for in between weather conditions. Find slacks, khakis or silk pants/outfits much more to my liking and comfort. Think jeans, unless jean shorts in the carrabean, are DUMB. Didn't even pack or wear for Alaska. Much too hot in the carrabean. Have no clue why many posters would even want to wear in the carrabean.

I love my jeans. I don't wear them cruisin but around the house, shopping, out and about to most school activities..........jeans! Of course I do agree that the sweats are much more comfortable but not as versatile. Cruisin I prefer cotton or linen.

I love my jeans, wear them all the time at home, to go shopping, out to eat if its casual but never on vacation unless its a road trip!

Jeans take up to much valuable packing space, then I switch to cotton pants. Would never consider taking them to a warm climate, too hot. I didn't take them to Alaska either!

On me, "stretch jeans" means the fat stretches out the jeans. I like a good old fashioned "hold it in and shape it" jean. <bg>

I wear jeans for casual stuff, around the house, to the grocery store stuff, but I do not consider them the " comfiest pants" I think the comfiest pants are these ones I have that are made of this parachute like fabric. Quick wash and dry, soft and comfy. I never take jeans travelling because they are heavy and take up alot of room in suitcases. I have on occaison taken a pair camping though.

I will never understand the cruisers who want to take jeans to the Carribean. They are just to hot and heavy. An Alaskan cruise I could understand taking jeans, but anywhere hot just doesn't make sence.

I love my stretch jeans from Old Navy. There's just nothing like a great fitting pair of jeans. You can dress them up or down, they last forever, low maintenance....But I do admit I rarely wear them between May-September. I tend to lean toward casual skirts and capris in the warmer seasons, and that's actually how I dress on ships. I absolutely do not find Dockers comfortable, mostly because they don't make a fit I like. They ride so high up I feel constricted all day. I don't know I used to wear full-waist pants back in the 80's/90's. (In all fairness to you folks frustrated by all the low-waist pants on the market, I'm barely 5 feet tall, and regular waists practically ride up to my chest. Not flattering or comfortable.)

My husband also loves jeans, but I'm just now getting him to wear them so they fit his fanny! He used to insist that they were only comfortable when they were so saggy he looked like he was carrying a load in his drawers. I just can't understand that. I can't stand any kind of sagging in my own pants...
