Poll: Should port charges be reimbursed if that port is miss

If the ship misses a port due to mechanical problems or bad weather, should the passengers be refunded the port charges they paid for that port?

Cheers,
Michelle P.

Sounds like a good idea to me. I have been on cruises that missed a port and was reimbursed some, however, i have been on others and zilch. Wish they had a policy.

Sounds like they should, on the other hand , the amounts are usually rather nominal
and not worth getting in a tizzy over. I would rather have the port than the money.

I think the cruise lines should reimburse passengers when a scheduled port is missed unless the port is replaced with another. The amount of money may or may not be significant, but even so, it's money passengers have spent.

Re: Poll: Should port charges be reimbursed if that port is

On my last cruise in jan, a crew member took ill and the ship turned around to off load the sick crew member. This meant we missed our first port. Carnival did reimburse each of us, $25.00. There were those that muttered about the inconvenience, but on the whole, passengers were concerned of the well being of the crew member. I feel this was a fair reimbursement, as if I turned ill, carnival would hopefully turn around for me. We still had the time on the ship and whether it be land or sea, the cruise must go on.

Any time we have missed a port, the port charges were reimbursed automatically.

Absolutely....That money isn't supposed to be extra profit for the line,,,,it's supposed to be paid to the port! Imaging that. If we don't go there, the line doesn't have to pay the port, so that money should be, and always has been refunded to the pax. (Actually, I too have been aboard cruises where we missed the port, but didn't see the refund)
Happy sailing,
Ken

If the money is not paid to the " port" then yes it should be refunded. If another posrt is substituted then of course I assume the fee will go to the port chosen. If it is a sea day I expect a refund, unless the cruiseline is expected to pay the port fee regardless of whether they use the port or not. I guess I need clarification on that point.
