hi mates... for the past 5 days I have had HORRIBLE leg/ ankle/ foot cramps where I have been crying it hurt so much !! I was able the first few nights to "walk it off"... but last night... I got it in both legs and when I tried to walk was in dire pain... what do I do for this ? I dont want to have to go back to Dr... Ive heard there are some meds you could take.... any natural supplements or over counter ? Im desperate @ this point... just sitting here in my chair I can feel them "tingling" and they are threating to go on strike again.
bananas will help, or just try potassium tablets. i get severe charley horses, and this helps me. however, the cramps may be a sign of other problems. a phone call to your doctor asap is the bset advise.

Re: muscle cramps.... any advice ?
Steph - do call your doctor. If your potassium level is too high or too low, it can not only cause muscle cramps, but could also affect your heart. Do try eating an extra banana or two and drink some orange juice (both are high in potassium), but don't over do it until you know what your blood work says. Tingling is also another warning signal - PLEASE get to your doctor soon.

Listen to the rest of the folks and go to the doctor. We are a great site for cruising, chit chat and moral support but not a place to get medical advice. Just because something worked for someone else doesn't mean it will work for you. It could as easily make things worse. We don't know your personal medical history, your blood chemistry, etc. Something as serious as having serious pain for five days is something you should see your doctor about.
I hope you do see your doctor and you get some relief from this problem.

I had that sort of feeling after my surgery and my calcium was depleted. There could be so many reasons, you really should go to the doctors. I know that it seems endless at this point, but keep at it and soon you'll feel so much better that all those appointments will then seem worthwhile.
hi yall... I didnt mean to IMPLY that I was asking for your medical EXPERTISE... just to see whether or not you have had any similar circumstances, etc. (I hope my question to my "friends" didnt ruffle someones feathers ?)
But, too end this story... I went to walk in clinic this afternoon, where they did bloodwork & my electrolytes were fine as was my Potassium levels. Dr didnt know why I was having cramps, gave me MORE meds & said if it didnt help to get in touch with my primary Doctor this week.... My GUESS is that with all the surgery & different MEDS they have been trying me on has my poor body all screwed up inside !! But, Im not a Doctor !
Steph.. no ruffled feathers here! Just concern for YOU.
Medical situations are critical to deal with by seeing professionals. Your friends here are good for support, but I have heard of too many people who diagnosis themselves using the net, and then find themselves in dangerous situtations.
Steph, call you Dr. You may have a nerve in your lower back being pinched and that might be what is causing all the pain. In other words, there may not be anything wrong with your legs, it might be your back. I have lots of spinal problems and understand how painful they are and it it is a spinal nerve then even Demerol doesn't much help. Right now I am on all kinds of very strong meds for this in my neck and they will be giving me basically a spinal block Tuesday to help relieve it. I really do feel for you as the pain if terrible.
Steph, I am so glad you saw a Dr. I do hope you are feeling better soon. If the medical advice fails then book a cruise, that should clear up any problems. My bill will be in the mail.

I agree with everyone else to see your doctor regarding this problem. HOWEVER I used to get leg cramps and my MIL suggested holding a bar of SOAP to the area which was cramping! Believe it or not (although it didn't work everytime!) the cramp began to dissipate as I brought the bar of soap close to my calf.
Maybe it was just the power of suggestion, and it didn't always work, but I found it interesting!

Steph, Whenever I have a leg cramp(not very often thankfully), I make sure I drink lots of milk. Don't know if it has anything to do with the Calcium/Mg in it or what. It seems I get cramps after I have not been drinking milk for a few days or so.
Make sure you talk to your Dr. again if the cramps continue for you.
