Default Travel insurance story

We got back from the Mercury yesterday, Sunday May 15.
Here is a reason to have travel insurance.

A woman on our cruise last week fell while carrying a tray from the buffet and broke her hip. This was in the port of Manzanillo. The ship sailed an hour late waiting for an ambulance to take her off.
In Puerto Vallarta I spoke with the individual that coordinates with the cruise ships and ports for amblatory care. She was in the process of making all the arrangements.

NOW, here is the biggie, no travel insurance. The cost of all the special services to get this person back to her home town (Sacramento, CA) will be about $23,000.
She is doing fine by the way.

You never know what might happen, so a lesson learned, be safe not sorry.

What a sad story. Thanks for sharing it. It makes you think twice about leaving home without it.

With Larry tripping over the bathroom entrance, and James falling in the pool, I'm sure glad we had insurance on our recent cruise!

Travel insurance is a MUST. I can't believe all of the people who post on this site asking if or why they need it. We've made good use of travel insurance when we cruised. If and when we ever get the opportunity to cruise again, most assuredly, we will buy travel insurance.

I can't believe that I didn't thing travel insurance was not necessary for our first couple of cruises. You can only dodge the bullet so many times before something will happen. This goes to show that a freak accident can be very costly. For about a $100, we can rest assured that if there's an accident, or travel glitch, the cost will not be coming out of our pockets. One less thing to worry about!

We never leave 'home' without it for that very reason. Yes, it adds to the cost, but it is well worth the piece of mind.

Thanks Steve, for the reminder that it's something we should all make a general practice....we NEVER know when something will happen.

My one trip to the ship infirmary totally offset the cost of the travel insurance..... 30 minutes in the infirmary was $250 and the insurance was $150 for both of us together. And they paid promptly, no questions asked.

Thanks for the reminder. I have bought it for both my cruises. I even got us a good family rate for the last cruise. It is a long way from home when you are in the Caribbean=$$$$$$.

I'm so glad I got insurance for the British Isles! Complete coverage is the best way to go, as you never know what can happen to your luggage or, heaven forbid, your health. It's not even that expensive - just a few tanks of gas nowadays - for the invaluable peace of mind.
