I love ABBA and the Bee Gees!!!! I remember getting grounded my senior year in high school (way back when) when Saturday Night Fever was playing and my friend and I were late getting home from it! i was grounded for two weeks (no car priveleges, etc......) but it was worth it!
Carnival Breeze with Ray Band Aerogirl 5/4/14!
I bought ABBA Gold about 6 months ago and listen to it all the time...... Dancing Queen is my favorite, too. As for the BeeGees, I love them, but cannot listen to Stayin' Alive w/out thinking of Dudley Moore in Foul Play...... cracks me up every time!
Two summers ago we took our girls to New York for a week. I had heard about the musical Mamma Mia from a friend of mine who had been to Canada and saw it premier there. We got some tickets (very expensivebut worth it). Mamma Mia is a delightful musical and the music is ABBA! It is about a woman who lives on an island. Her daughter informs her she wants to be married and wants to invite her father to walk her down the aisle. Funny, her mother won't tell her for sure which of several different guys is her father! It is a great musical and I guarantee you people were dancing in the theater during the encore! I too love ABBA, have the soundtrack from the musical, and hubby gave me the Bee Gees concert CD which I think was the last one before their brother died from his surgery. I'm with you ABBA BeeGee people all the way and if you get the chance, get tickets to Mamma Mia.
I too love the BeeGees and Abba and my niece has downloaded the overwhelming of their recordings on my I-Pod.
I was grounded once also when I was 16 for listening to so much loud current music. It was the "house" band at a palace in the Netherlands playing their newest hit, "In The Hall of The Mountain King"!
I wasn't allowed to ride my horse for a month!

All right, what I want to know is did you guys own up to liking this stuff at the time.. to he people who are old enough?
I was a teenage who loved ABBA, Olivia Newton-John, and I even liked John Denver all right and the kids who liked Pink Floyd Led Zepplin thought that I was an idiot. I never hid the fact that I was a huge ABBA fan at a time when ABBA was not cool and you got laughed at by the kids who liked Heart and Queen (not that I did not like Heart and Queen.) So, who was out about their music choices?
I never cared for disco music. I loved the Bee Gees old stuff prior to Saturday Night Fever disco. Their album "Idea" is a classic.
The only thing I ever protested was Disco. Actually the movie "Can't Stop the Music" (Look it up on IMDB). A good friend of mine was in a band and clubs were converting from live music to disco records and he was no longer getting gigs. There is a picture somewhere in the archives of the Minneapolis StarTribune of me holding a sign that says: "Please Stop The Music".
I still rarely listen to disco music from the 70's.
