If cruise mate dies on shore while the ship is in port, let's say of a heart attack, just a short distance from the gang plank, does the body go back onboard or stay in the port city?
I don't know if this will answer your question, but just this past week a good friend of our family who was a musician performing on the Westerdam and he suffered a heart attack while on board near port. (the info I have is still somewhat sketchy, but this is how it was relayed to me) They transported him by ambulance to the hospital where he died. They flew his body back home from there.
God Thomas, you are on a roll again! <VBG> If in port they "might" allow the body to go ashore if the responsible party wants to. If the person dies while on shore, which includes the dock, he/she is under control of that country. If it is me, prop me up and make it look like I am waving to the folks arriving. <G>

If it is in Cozumel they will think your drunk and will leave you laying for weeks…This is a very common occurrence there. After they do realize you are dead, they take you to the ruins and display you as a mummy…
