We did the Copper Canyon train ride and did it as a one week land cruise. It was fabulous. I don't think you will see nearly enough from a cruise.

We felt short-changed only having a week. There is a lot to see and take in. It is very easy to do this one on your own as a land vacation. I highly recommend it.

I'd fly into Los Moches and make overnight stops in Il Fuerte, Divisidero, & Creel for sure. (maybe more places if you have time) Then end your trip in Chihuahua and fly from Chihuahua to the states.

Rondo, an associate did it on HAL, and she said it was a *LONG* day.

Copper Canyon excursion with HAL is 18 hours. The cost is $379.00 p/p.
That is one long day.

I've traveled by rail through the Copper Canyon and loved it! It's remote, beautiful and has a very interesting history.

I think the all day train ride is quite oppressive with little chance to explore the canyon.
The Tarahumara people are a fascinating culture. You won't see much on a one day long train ride.

Overnight stays at various stops is a wonderful way to see the canyon in my humble opinion.
