Have some questions for you world travelers.... bearing in mind we have NEVER been to Vegas !! We currently have our trip planned for june 15 - 20th... and we were staying 3 nights @ NY NY and 2 nights @ Grand as my son wanted to sample both hotels.
Now, tonight we see there are some great rates @ Venetian - it is more centrally located & closer to our family staying @ Golden Nugget... Its $200 approx more to stay the 5 nights @ Venetian.... Other than it being a hassle to switch hotels... are there really any other benefits ? I was excited about the Grand cause it has the Lazy River.
I did find out the pools where we are booked now close @ 7 & 8 pm... the Venetian is open til 9... so, thats a plus also...
Good to hear you are going to Vegas, you'll have fun.
We stayed at MGM Grand for 4 days and enjoyed it very much. IT's connected to NY NY by pedway. We walked to NY NY several times, it didn't seem to have the class of MGM Grand.
Venetian is awesome, however, after saying that, I feel that there is probably much more to do for your son at MGM. If I was going to Vegas with energetic children, my vote would be MGM. I certainly recommend visiting Venetian and take in their dinner buffet.
As far as proximity to the Golden Nugget, you have to get a taxi or a bus and it's no more than an extra 5 minute from MGM than if you staying at Venetian. I would not see that as a factor in making your decision.
The most beautiful site, we enjoyed, was going up the Eiffle Tower at Paris to see the outside fountain show of the Bellagio. The fountain show is free and a must see in Vegas.
If anybody in your party is interested in antique cars, go to the Imperial Palace, you can get free coupons in the visitor's guide. Couldn't beleive the collection they have there.
We caught Cirque du Soleid ''O'' at the Bellagio. Don't know if it's still playing but, it was pretty amazing. If the show is sold out, you can go a few hours before show time, stand in line and most of the time you can get in. Don't say dah to this, but don't buy from scalpers in Vegas.
I think the Venetian has an excellant location. More centrally located. It is really beautiful. We didn't stay there, but am seriously considering it when I go again, if it is just my husband and I. With the kids I liked the location of where we stayed, the Excalibur - it isn't too far from the Grand and NY, NY. These are fun places for the kids, and all near each other. You really can't go wrong staying in any of the locations on the strip. Personnaly I'd save the extra money it would cost to stay at the Venetian to spend on other stuff. Once you've been you'll want to go back, so you can stay at the Venetian next time.
I'm truly excited for you.How I wish I were there. It is just so much fun!
I'm hoping that you'll share your experience with us once you return, even tho' it isn't a cruise. Personnally, I love to hear about any travel, be it land or sea.
I've never been but pretty much everyone I know has been... and from everything they've said, I would hands-down pick the Venetian! They have all said they would love to stay there if they could afford it!
Hi everyone. I've read with interest all your suggestions. We're going in July and have picked the Tropicana, based on price and their pool area. One of my must sees though is the Venetian, and I want so much to do the gondola ride! I'm looking forward to the trip as the last time I was there (95) none of these new hotels were there.
The Venetian is the better choice. Why? Location is better. Rooms are nicer and larger. Pool is more than adequate. Canyon Ranch Spa is incredible. The restaurants are great - try Emeril Lagasse's Delmonico, Valentinos, and Bouchon. All three of these are fabulous. There is a casual restaurant in there too by the makers of the Cheesecake Factory (sorry, the name escapes me at the moment) and it is practically identical to CF. Service is very good in this hotel. The shopping is nice and not too big. Madame Tussauds is also a nice place to spend a couple of hours too. Have fun. You won't regret staying here over the other too. For more info on LV and hotel reviews by forum users go to tripadvisor.com, click on Las Vegas, and in the search box to the left enter Venetian. A bunch of user review will pop up. They also have message boards such as this one if you want to ask there.
We always stay at the Monte Carlo. A five minute walk down the street takes you to NY NY and the MGM across the street. The Excaliber is also across the street (elevated walkways to both) and has a free tram to Luxor and Mandelay Bay.
If you want to go North, a free tram takes you right to the Bellagio with Caesers, Ballys and Flamingo right across the street at the corner (again elevated walkways).
Monte carlo also has a winding river, but the pool closes at 6 pm.
Having lived in Vegas I say save your money. You can go into any Casino you want to and look around and enjoy their dinners etc. The Venitian is BEAUTIFUL!!! You must go see it while you are there but save your money and use it for family fun. Kids will enjoy NY NY and Grand just fine. If it were just adults I would say splurge!
Enjoy your trip and WIN BIG!!!
