Default NY CruiseMates, I need your help

My neighbour, after having heard us rhapsodize over our cruises so often, has decided to take the plunge and book a cruise this summer. They would like to drive to NY and sail out of that port, so my question to anyone in the know is, how much does parking cost at the port, and are there any "insider" alternatives?

Above post is correct. Parking in NY is VERY EXPENSIVE. In fact the parking at the port is relatively inexpensive, very convenient as well. Donna, for example, we paid $27 to park for 3 1/2 hours at Museum of Natural History yesterday and that was with a member discount.
I should emphasize that parking at the pier in NYC is payable IN CASH ONLY and in advance (as you enter).

You're Montreal or thereabouts, right?

Once took the train from New York to Montreal and found it delightful. It could be a very nice alternative to driving and parking from both a financial and stress point of view.

Some very pretty scenery on that rail route.

AR, thanks for the great idea! I'll pass it on to my neighbour.
And thanks to the others for their help also!
