My kids, 18 & 20, and I are in the early stages of planning a surprise 50th birthday cruise for my DH. (It's not until January 2007) Which would you be more excited about if you received it --Eastern Caribbean or Mediterranean?
I would take the Mediterranean in a heartbeat but you have to weigh the differences. Mediterranean cruises are more port intensive: usually longer in duration: usually have an older demographic: are often more expensive and you have to consider the airfare.
In my opinion it would be more of a cruise of a lifetime to the Mediterranean, with its history and sites. It would probably be as much of a present for the family as it would be for the DH.

I will be the lonely vote for the Caribbean. My kids are almost the exact ages of yours. We did the Western Carribean last August and it was perfect for the whole family.
It would have been a waste of time and effort to put them on a stody cruise with more older fogies (like me).
I think your parents and you would get pleasure from seeing how the kids enjoyed the cruise. If yours are like mine, they don't need the sightseeing as much as the adventure. And having others their age on the boat made their day! The entertainment on the cruise was more to their liking, too.
Bored kids, even at these ages, don't do much for a vacation.
i will agree with you EM - even though your kids are older i think that they might find a Med cruise a bit boring, they still want to find and hang out with kids their own age and they would be few and far between on a Med cruise. They are probably more interested in beaches, snorkeling, adventure and bathing suit watching
Med for me - what i'd be excited about but that is coming from someone who has done the caribeean a bunch. I'd really love Alaska or the deep southern caribeean for 10 days out of Florida. Those are my choices... Debbie
