missing girl in Aruba update
The father of one of the three boys being held was just arrested. This makes 7 people picked up/arrested, two have been let go and 5 now remain in custody. Yet there are still no answers about her whereabouts. The girls mother has also made comments that more people need to be sought and questioned. While I feel bad about what happened, it's geting alittle crazy that people keep getting arrested but nothing new has come out. How long will this go on? I keep playing detective in my head with what little info we know.
I'm also sitting here thinking about the people in custody--3 young men, a party boat captain and a judicial official. Hmmm--boys pick up girl, judicial official gets her new passport and new identity, party boat captain sails her to a new location. Maybe forcefully or maybe voluntarily. (I say voluntarily because of her quote in her yearbook)
On a happy note, I'm so glad they found the 11 year old cub scout in Utah, alive and well.

Re: missing girl in Aruba update
That's good news about the Boy Scout, all right. I don't remember the quote in her yearbook but it might be about traveling and being free or something. It's quite a detective story. I hope it turns out to be a good ending. Someone said she hoped that the girl wasn't sold into slavery. Does that still happen these days?? Lynne

Re: missing girl in Aruba update
Her quote in her yearbook was from the song Freebird--
"In the Mountain Brook yearbook, Holloway's senior quote came from the old Lynyrd Skynyrd song "Freebird." It says: "If I leave here tomorrow, would you still remember me? For I must be traveling on now, there's too many places I haven't seen."

Re: missing girl in Aruba update
she was ready to come home everyone says and i live like 20 minutes from her dad and in the islands like maxico and aruba and all the islands it not unusual for slavery... i think they might have gave her to someone or sold her....
oh and joran van der sloot admitted to sleeping with her on the beach and not being able to wake her up...
hummm and then i think he ran to daddy for help and daddy helped all 4 boys
just my opinion

Re: missing girl in Aruba update
as this story plays out in full public view, with her family, friends and community going thru absolute hell that no one can imagine, and the entire island of Aruba in a state of shock worrying how this will affect the tourism trade and their reputation...I bet some tv executive has already planned a made for tv movie to be shown on the E channel

Re: missing girl in Aruba update
Cheryl, I didn't see anything about him sleeping with her either. Only that he now admits he was alone with her on the beach, then left her there. Interesting idea you have on what happened. Scary huh? Since we are all guessing, my guess is that he was alone with her, killed her, then called Daddy to help him cover up. Because when they called Daddy in as a "witness", they ended up arresting him because his story ended up having faults statements in it. The spokewoman for the Att. General said, that he was not arrested only because he knew something, but because they feel he was involved!
I also have to say that her Mom is a hero. I think if not for her pressure she is doing we wouldn't know as much as we do. Keep it up, MOM!!!

Re: missing girl in Aruba update
I really hope this story has a happy ending. She may be going through "hell" right now, but if she is alive, that will be what everyone will have been praying would happen. I heard, too, that the Dutch boy said that he was "alone" with her on the beach, and that Dad had been arrested. I haven't seen if any additional progress has been made. I know the boy's mother is saying that the authorities are using all kinds of tactics to "break" him and make him confess. I believe that he could have been on the beach alone with her, and something went wrong-maybe a refusal- and Dad was called. The details will be interesting once they are released--IF they ever are released.
I also applaud Natalee's mother for keeping up the pressure. Lynne

Re: missing girl in Aruba update
This isn't what I am hearing? The two brothers are now talking and apologizing for lying to protect their friend. The van der slute boy is not talking much but is very inconsistant and based on what he has said and his fathers actions and remarks they believe he is involved in covering up what happened to his son. This may also be where the boat guy comes in. The father has also told his son NOT to talk or say anything. "Seems" like the boy was with her alone and somehow she died or was killed. He went home and told his father who helped him cover it up possibly by getting the boat guy to dump her body at sea. Meerly conjecture my friends but a possibility. Understand that the Polici there do things differant from us and they don't run and tell the media everything they have heard unlike the PR Officer here has to do. I think that is the right way to handle an investigation, quitely and internally. Not by having the media run all over it and get it screwed up. The Mom of the missing girl is satisfied with the actions of the polici. The people that are unhappy are the media because they have been shut out, and the FBI because they are not going to turn over their murder case to them who have no right to be there anyway except as a guest! Let the Aruba Polici work and solve this case as they will.

Re: missing girl in Aruba update
Now that the info about him being alone with her on the beach has come out, I really believe that something happened on the beach. I don't know what's worse to believe--she "somehow" died or she was turned over to someone else. I just hope that her parents and family get the truth soon. The longer this goes on, the harder it must be for them.

Re: missing girl in Aruba update
Wouldn't it be in better hands if the FBI handled the case Jim? I mean they are the experts and more experianced at these things then the Aruba police don't you think?

Re: missing girl in Aruba update
@Showcat, I don't think the FBI has any jurisdiction on a Dutch island.
@ Jim, not meant rotten, but the boys name is Van der Sloot, and the double oo is pronounced as the o in your NO. Dutch names can be difficult.
I hope the girl is found soon, and this horrifying story can end for both the parents.

Re: missing girl in Aruba update
I happened to tune into Geraldo last night before bed and Greta Van Sustern was on piecing together the known facts and locations, along with some unverified facts. But it was interesting to see how a timeline was being put together based on what has been brought forward so far. The mother of the two friends of the Dutch boys was on and said they told her they'd been lying to protect Joran.
One fact that came out that I didn't know before was that the Dutch boy had called his father earlier in the evening from a MacDonald's to get a ride home. Dad took him home and evidently the kid had been grounded from going out. Apparently, from what the father offered, he thought his son was home in bed, but in truth, he sneaked out after his father went to bed. He was drinking illegally-under age, and in the casino-underage.
The father, being a judge, knows what he can answer and what he can't (or won't). But as a father, he's trying to protect the boy. He must really be conflicted at this point. I feel sorry for HIS mother, too, because she's caught in the middle of both of them.
What a sorry mess that kid got himself and a lot of others into. As for Natalee, she was charmed, and it's easy to get caught in the trap of a romantic paradise, and then realizing it's back to reality the next day on an airplane. She wanted one last memory.Lynne

Re: missing girl in Aruba update
Paul van der Sloot is released from custody due to lack of evidence. The DJ from the tattoo disco is released also.
On this side of the pond we are very anxious to know what happened to the girl. It is a puzzle how one person can disappear so completely on a small island like Aruba. Is there a small possibility that she is still alive?
@Lynne and Trevor, Joran is 17 years of age and under Dutch law allowed to drink. The age limit is 16.

Re: missing girl in Aruba update
I think that all those that have been arrested should be made to sit and rot in jail until someone cracks. Those boys know damn well what happened to her and with time hopefully someone breaks down under the pressure and talks. But according to the news tonight, if some crucial evidence is not found in the next few weeks, the police will not have anything in which to hold them in jail.
The father of the boy being arrested was interesting. His story just isn't matching up to his sons. The possibility of her being sold into slavery/prostitution had also crossed my mind. She was blonde and beautiful?
This story reminds me of the one a few years ago about the young women who was on a cruise with her family and she just turns up missing one night while out to sea, after a full search of the ship hours after it docked in Curacao, turned up nothing. A few days later, ship returns to Miami without the daughter. This case was never solved though there has been several sightings of her around that island, she still is missing. How scarey, to think that you can go on a cruise vacation and return missing a child. It just shows you that we have to still be aware and cautious even while on a beautiful ship headed to paradise. Crime is just waiting and watching for that one moment you put your guard down but by then it might be too late......!
