Default Shark Attack

Fox news just reported that a 14 yo girl was killed by a shark in the Sandestin area in Florida. This is where we are vacationing in Sept..I know and understand that the ocean is their domain and I am not going into their domain.

with progress the way it is, humans are taking over all the space that the creatures use to exist in.... its no wonder that creatures & humans are colliding more often.....

mountain lions, sharks, snakes, skunks.... all with an order to evict @ their houses so they come to ours....

its a very dangerous world... always be on the lookout & Im with you BJ... I may wade in the ocean... but Im not going further out than I can touch (in some cases even that is too far out)

Be safe people,
Steph

This is all to common as a seven year old kiwi girl was also killed this week by a shark.

The family were on a sailing holiday in Vanuatu.
They did all the right things as they were swimming where the locals were and it still happened.

Too me it is very sad when someone is attacked by a shark, especially young teens. I feel so horrible for the family. My thoughts and prayers are with them.

That's right by where my parents live... I never go in the water at the beach unless it is clear (like in the Caribbean.) You just never know what's in there with you! Plus when you get out you're all sticky.

I feel for that girl's family.

Cheers,
Michelle P.

BJ:
My family goes twice a year to the Panhandle area. We alternate going to Gulf Shores/Orange Beach, AL and to Ft Walton, Destin, and Panama City, Fl. We have been going for 26 years.
I have parasailed, riden helicopters down the beach and flown down the beach in small single engine aircraft. I have always seen sharks right offshore. Normally they are anywhere from 150 to 300 yards offshore which is ususally several sandbars from the shore, but they are ALWAYS THERE !
I have seen schools of sharks stretching for miles right offshore.
Most people go into knee deep or waist deep water usually within the first sandbar and are fine. When you venture out further the odds of encountering a shark are greatly increased. Shark attachs are rare and are tragic but no one should doubt for a second that the sharks are there everytime they venture into the Gulf of Mexico or the Atlantic coast of Florida.

I just heard on our local news that there has been a second shark attach in the Panhandle of the Gulf of Mexico. A young boy has been critically injured.

Yes the young man lost a leg just 80 miles from the previous shark attack. He was only in water waist deep. I agree, I like the water clear like the caribbean and not much over my knees but unfortunately attacks do happen and will continue to happen as we "invade" their space.

Just out of curiosity, I know that there are sharks in the Bahamas, and someone mentioned Barracudas in Cozumel, but does anyone know if there are sharks anywhere else in these cruise ports? We have been on both the Eastern and Western routes and this is always in the back of my mind.Every time we go on a shore excursion that involves water, my kids tell me that my eyes are practically spinning in my head. I can't help it...I should have never seen Jaws!
