On this, a very special holiday in the USA, millions of us will be cooking out. And what will we be cooking? HOT DOGS & HAMBURGERS!! We know there are many many bizarre ways people top off their favorite foods. Some could make a grown man weep.
Now this thread, may create havoc, as hot dog & hamburger mavens, state their topping preferences.."You put WHAT on your hotdog?" "You must be crazy if you put THAT, on your hamurger!!" So be brave citizens, and just get it off your chests! We won't laugh....Ya right
Ok... I am from Boston, for the most part in this area, for a hot dog, it's mustard, relish, & chopped onions. Many Bostonians may remember Simco's hotdogs..Be still my heart! Once in a while, I go off the deep end, and put sauerkraut on it..
For hamburgers, I am not as rigid..I go between the following, mustard, relish, mayo, lettuce and tomato,. cheese of course...!
Oh ya. ..lets toss in french fries..ketchup or vinegar..?? Never knew vinegar was an option, till I went to Canada! Are you hungry yet??
So state your state, and eating preferences for this very important holiday issue
Most of all, have a safe holiday, and pass the pepto, please!!!

My hambers are grilled, with large portabella mushrooms, toasted bun, and a slice of cheese lettuse and tomato. Just like the ones Jimmy Buffet sings about in Cheesberger in Paradise. Now that is good eating. Yummm and for desert home made ice cream.
Hi Trip,Tbug and all those to follow. I am a ketchup on the hot dog girl. Turns some peoples stomachs, but I love it. We are going to have steak. I have been saving them for this day. I am in need of some info , and since it is dealing with food, I am going to include it here. For thosae of you who don't live in the south east, this won't make any sense to you but for those of you in Ga. Tenn etc. maybe. I am looking for Brunwick stew that I can order on line. I grew up with the stuff in Ga. and here in Texas it is Beans. Does anyone know of a place I can contact? For those of you eating a good, sweet, Ga watermelon this weekend, think of me. I miss those as well. Texas has watermelon, but it isn't the real sweet kind. You guys have a great day. Be safe.
Malt vinegar on thick cut fries is very good. (Everyone thought I was "weird" when I was a kid: My mom was English) I personally take: Meat, cheddar cheese, some ketchup and a good bun on my hamburger. Forget the rabbit food.
We had our July 4th cookout last night. BBQ boy (son) made four racks of ribs that were delicious and there were no leftovers. It wasn't I who ate them. The other five members of the family consumed most of them.
BTW: Ever tried to floss a three year old? <VBG>
Take care and Happy 4th

Mmmm, you're all making me hungry! Here in Quebec, we are known for our "patate frites", greasy, over fried and delicious, served with salt and vinegar, and of course, "le steame" a hot dog in a steamed bun. My choice is ketchup and mustard, but most like it "all dressed" with cole slaw, onions, etc.
As for burgers, make mine a cheeseburger, with mustard, ketchup, tomato and dill pickle!
Yumm......mustard on the dog and maybe some onions or even better some cole slaw.
Not much of a hamburger person.....my husband has worked at a meat company for 20+ years and the longer he's been there the less red meat I eat!
Also a big fan of malt vinegar on fries.
We're having a cook out tomorrow with some friends here at our house....hot dogs, hamburgers, potato salad, jello shots! YAY!
We are talking about grilling.............
Hot Dogs...there is nothing compare to a grill hot dog dip in hot BBQ. sauce.......
Hamburger.....Dip in BBQ sauce top off with swiss cheese, grill onions, grill mushroom, bacon, lettuce and tomato on a grill sesame bun........mmmmmmmmmmm....
here in W. Texas....
Hot Dogs.... Yellow Mustard (usually) but I have been known to put yellow mustard ketchup AND pickle relish on mine. Occasionally, chili & melted cheese
Hamburgers.... Mustard, Cheddar, Tomato, Lettuce
Fries.... I was born in England... so I have an excuse... I like vinegar on my "chips" or ketchup on my fries... depending on the mood
BUT... the saddest thing about all of this is... I cant eat ANY of the above... have had terrible stomach problems for years, pre-Krohns is what my doctor said and after having my gallbladder out in February... If I eat a hot dog, Ive got about 30 minutes to enjoy it.... Life is too short to willingly eat something you KNOW will make you sick !
Hope y'all eat some really GOOD food and think of poor little ol me !!
Linda, thanks I remember those. What I was trying to do, was order from someone, that has not been mass produced. I found Mack's BBQ on the internet (think they are in Brunswich Ga.) Never could get anyone to help me even though they advertize on net. I have ordered Ribs from Corky's in Memphis, but they don't seem to carry Stew. I have found all the usual BBQ places in Atlanta, but they don't do internet orders.
Cougar, in answer to the poutine question, No, I don't like it, but I will eat the fries with "la sauce", just no cheese curds. For those of you who don't know, "Poutine" is indigenous to Quebec, and is basically a plate of greasy fries, covered with cheese curds, and smothered in gravy (sauce). Sometimes, the cheese is melted and gooey. Thoroughly disgusting and unhealthy, but very popular!
Well here goes..I am allergic to mustard..sooo I use mayo or ketchup on my hot dog with some relish...for the Hamburger, I use the mayo again with some lettuce, tomato, and onion...I never put grits on my Hamburger though.>G<
