Are dressy pant suits okay to wear tothe dining room or should it be just dresses??? This is our first cruise and I don't want to do anything wrong...or not acceptable..
Hi Mary Ann,
Yes, pants suits are fine, if its real fancy, could even be worn on a formal nights, but mostly you'll see dresses, som long, some short on formal nights. I do wear pants on the casual evenings, skirts, and even a sun dress too.
that particular pant suit i feel isn't dressy enough for formal nights, would be ok for informal nights with a nice red silk blouse.
MaryAnne - if your pantsuit is of a dressy cut and fabric, pair it with a sparkly or silky dress blouse, dress heels and maybe a pin and you are all set for formal night.
If your pantsuit is of a more casual style and fabric it would be fine for non-formal nights.
How do you know which nights are formal and which nights are informal?? Do you get a schedule or something??? Oh how dumb I am, you can certainly tell I'm a first time cruiser....
wear what your husband likes to see you in or purchases for you for the cruise..there is only 1 1/2 folks you have to please, you and your husband (guess which one is the half (BG)
fyi, you can call your cruise line to find out which nights are formal
feel free to ask questions, that's how you learn, and we were all first time cruisers with lots of questions, at one time..matter of fact, there are many 20x cruisers who still have lots of questions
Mr. Blackwell, you fashion maven you...you crack me up..I haven't seen one of those since the 70's...A dressy black tie style pantsuit would absolutely work...Beaded top, flowey pants..perfectly acceptable...Right mr Blackwell?

Hi Mary Ann,
Each evening they will leave you a schedule for the next days activities, etc. They will let you know what the next nights dress code is....The first night out is almost always casual, usually the second one will be a formal, the last one is always casual too. That should narrow it down a little for you.
It's not dress v. pants --it's the fabric & how you will feel in each.
I can't open the one link but the picture of the plaid pants suit isn't dressy to me. I would wear that during the day to work. It's still ovely but it's not formal wear. Think about something you'd wear to an elegant evening wedding in a big city or at least to a religious service.
As for style, if what you chose makes you feel beautiful go for it. Just be sure you'll feel comfortable in it around women in gowns & men in tuxedos. If not, revisit your choices.
