On *every* cruise I have ever been on, the scarmbed eggs in the buffet are just awful.
On RCCL, they had no flavor ... tasted as if they added a ton of water to the egg batter to make it go farther. On Norwegian, they had a fish taste (I think from the pan). They are just always awful. Same on Princess and Carnival.
Does anyone have any insight as to why?
:-)

I had no problem with the eggs on the Fantasy or the Conqest. Maybe I just hit it lucky and at the right time. Early....I really dont mind as long as they are done and as long as they are "CHICKEN" eggs..

Re: Why are scrambled eggs awful?
I haven't had trouble with scrambled eggs on any of my cruises....I guess I always wait til the fresh pan comes out and then scoop some out - they have never been too stiff or too runny - and they taste just fine.

I thought they were pretty awful on both my Carnival cruises and I was wondering if they were powdered eggs.
I think you've hit it, Harry - they water them down to make them go further.

The biggest disappointment of our upcoming cruise, for my wife, was when I told her that the Norwegian Star did not have an omelet station in the buffet.
Steam table eggs , real or not, are bypassed by her. I will try them if they don't look liquid but most of the time I too will bypass them.
Take care,
Mike(Who must have ketchup "small amount" on his scrambled eggs, to the horror of the foodies)

Ypu are not alone in the use of ketchup on eggs. I too confess to using it....however in what might be viewed as copious amounts. That's probably why I never thought that the scrambled eggs were not good.......any other ketchup-a-holics out there....?
Yup, Sid and Mike, I too am a ketchup-a-holic when it comes to scrambled eggs. As for the eggs, I have never had a complaint about cruise ship scrambled eggs, other than that they may be occasionally cold. In fact, cruising is the only time I actually eat a big breakfast. At home I can barely manage a piece of toast first thing in the morning!
Cruise ship or not. I find that scrambled eggs in ANY buffet stinks. Even more expensive brunches, in good restaurants. It's the nature of the beast, I guess.
Great idea about the station. I would not have thought of that.
The eggs aren't great that's for sure so I do the omelet stations, too! I'm always up early so I've never had to wait very long!
I went to the casino in Milwaukee recently and was amazed at how good their eggs were, usually scrambled eggs at any buffet are not great, I attibute it to egg beaters or some sort of "eggs in a carton"! :-)
Hi Harry!!!!!
The eggs are not good because they don't come fresh from my chickens. hehe Yes I still have all my critters. The only problem is we are so egged out that nobody in this family eats eggs anymore. I guess when you have it in front of you all the time you don't want it anymore. At lest I don't have any beef cows right know or I won't want any steaks. That would not be good.

great idea about going to the omlette station to get fresh scrambled eggs. You will also get better scrambled eggs if you eat breakfast in the dining room. If you can get your scrambled eggs from a fresh, hot pan at t he buffet they aren't too bad.
I'm not crazy about scrambled eggs in any case, (I too may add ketchup if I think no one is looking), but I like the eggs "over" on the buffet of the big Princess Ships. ie: Grand, Golden, Caribbean, or Star. They are really very, very good, and since they don't last long on the buffet, are usually very fresh and hot. In any case, I always enjoy the breakfast while at sea, but rarely eat it at home. Go figure????
Happy sailing,
Ken
