Okay, the ice cream thread got me going....there are restaurants and fast food places that advertise,in the Boston area, that are NOT in the Boston area...one specificlly, I want to come, is Sonics. Some of the food they show, looks sooo delish.. Do you have one, and are they good? Another is Papa Johns. A few, we used to have, and don't know why we don't anymore, are...Jack in the Box., Long John's, and Dennys. We had a Dennys, for a while, but it was a Sambo's then. They changed the name, and the they were gone.
Since this is the home of Dunkin Donuts, you can't go a block withour seeing them on both sides of the street..Are they EVERYWHERE? Do you have Honey Dew donuts?
Not food, but, they advertise here.. Steinmarts...WHY? we don't have any around here, so what's the point? I went to one in Florida, I want one here!, Don't tease me!

Beats me Trip. We get the Boston stations on our cable so we also get those ads. We do have Honey Dew in this area. I know of 2 in a 20 mile radius of us. Dunkin Donuts is a different story. There are 4 within 3 miles of here. Dunkin Donuts have been appearing in gas station/convenience stores and grocery stores. Every where there is a little extra space someone opens a Dunkin Donuts. I have yet to see a Starbucks in the area. I remember a Denny's in Salem NH but none that I know of north of there. I have seen the Sonic ads but have no idea where one would be locatd. What is the point of pouring money into advertising in an area where there is no store?

You have one I really miss that we use to have in our town and that's Boston Market. There isn't any in our whole state. We had one closeby a few years ago and it was always busy so I don't know why they left.
We have the others you mentioned except for Jack in the Box. We have two Sonics and we hardly ever go there; but if we had a Boston Market, I would be there at least once a week.
Trip.......I agree on the Sonics....we get the ads for them but non even close to us.....we have Jack in the Box & Denny's. No Long John's......but do have Skippers.....use to have Dunkin Donuts, buy long gone..... : -( No Honey Dew . We get the Stienmart ads also.....but nowhere close!!!
Most of those type places don't appeal to me anymore, so I really wouldn't mind not having them in the area. I am curious about why they advertise in an area where they aren't present though. I find that with Kohl's down in Florida. I see lots of ads on tv and know they are beginning to open stores down there, but none in the Palm Beach area, so why advertise?
I really miss the old Dunkin Donuts. They aren't like they used to be. I remember getting fresh cooked donuts that were made on the premises. Don't find that anymore. I really miss the nice crispy warm dunkin donut. Since I don't need to eat that kind of stuff, I guess that's a good thing for me.
We have Sonic here in Georgia... you aren't missing anything, the food's not that good. Papa John's is the BEST pizza delivery place in town. We get donuts at Krispy Kreme.
We also have ads on tv for Boston Market, but the only place to buy it is in the frozen food section at Kroger. Go figure!
I love our local SteinMart. Maybe if you are a VERY good girl, one will open nearby
Sonic's Cream Slush. Banana, Strawberry, with ice cream. To die for. Being from Atlanta, and traveling all over the world, I use to crave things I grew up with. My mom once Flew from Atlanta to Frankfort Germany with Arby's in her carry on. lol I did give her a hug before I grabbed her carry on. Several years ago, we went to a high school football playoff game in Dallas. We decided to make a weekend of it. On the way to the hotel, I spotted a Krispy Cream donut shop. Made hubby turn around, and when asked how many we wanted, I told him 3 dozen. He looked at me like I had lost my mind. No one had ever had one but me. Took them back to the hotel, and they went fast. There is nothing like them. Now you can find them all over Texas. Several years ago, after one of our divisions came back from Iraq, K. Cream brought there portable kitchen to Fort Hood, and gave away free donuts to troops. The line was around the block. Many soldiers had never had one. Now they sale out here in town. Carnival, did you just read that, That's good PR. I also grew up with Krystal hambergers. (for those of you up north White Castle) They had never been sold west of the Mississippi, and when they opened the store here, that's all I wanted for awhile. lol
I agree that Sonic's food is not that good. They have good drinks and shakes, though.
Krispy Kreme... personally, I am not a fan. I prefer Dunkin Donuts. (Which, yes, I think are everywhere.)
I was about to mention Kohl's, and Phyll beat me to it. They've been showing the ads on TV for a couple of years now but they are just starting to build them in Florida. There's a vacant lot near us with a "Coming soon - Kohl's" sign on it, so I guess we'll get one soon.
Three chains I wish were nationwide are County Line Barbecue, Luby's, and Bill Miller Barbecue... unfortunately, they are mainly Texas institutions.
I concur with MIchelle and Phyll about the Kohl's.....very odd that we had commercials when they're not around anywhere.
I also agree with Michelle about the Krispy Kremes.....can't see what all the fuss is about.

We have Papa John's, Jack in the Box, Denny's, Dunkin Donuts, and Steinmarts all over the place. We have only one Boston Market in our area, but I've never been there.
I am underwhelmed by Steinmart. My DIL's sister and mother love it. Tried the Steinmart in my area and thought it was awful. I do enjoy Kohl's, though.
Do you people back east and in the midwest have The Great Indoors? I like that a lot, too.
Trip this is too funny! Wejust went to a Steinmarts yesterday in Venice. It was my first trip there and I thought the prices are very good! I agree on the adds for Kohls..none of them here but we see the ads on TV. Very few Dunkin Donuts around here and it bugs me because I like the Iced Coffee.I have to drive 10 min to the nearest one.

Ok,
From one former New Englander, Sonic is like the old fashioned A&W drive ins. They are ok. We had 1 in Alabama. Think they are in Orlando. We have Dunkin Donuts but they are few and far between so every time I go up N I hit the D&D's by my sister's. We don't have a Kohls over here yet either. Friendly's either is one that is not really big here in Fl. But...we do get lots and lots of cruise commercials.
Anne
All we have for chain food places are McDonalds, Wendys and Subway. We have no chain stores either - unless you count Cumberland Farms Mini-Mart.
We can drive over an hour to Wal-mart, or about 45 minutes to a Taco Bell, KFC or Pizza Hut - or two hours to all the big Chain places - Olive Garden, Chilis and stores such as Kohls, Home Depot, Sears.
We live in the boondocks and there are people out even further that don't even have as much as our area has. You can really go back to the basics up here in the northeast Kingdom of Vermont -but hey, we have moose and deer and fox and lots of turkeys, the occasional bear, hawks and all that neat stuff - so I try to weigh the benefits.
We used to have Jack-in-the-box here in NE Illinois but not anymore. I have Sonics within walking distance but don't care for it. Tried it once, not that great!
Everyone raved when Krispy Kreme was coming here but I'm not impressed. I'd take Dunkin Donuts but they aren't what they used to be. I have a Dunkin Donuts within walking distance, but O'Brothers bakery (locally owned) is doors away and I would rather give my business to them.
Same with fast food, because I live next door to Wendy's, now and then I get a side salad and baked potato if my frig is empty. I don't go to White Castle, Burger King, McDonalds, Brown's Chicken or Taco Bell (also all within walking distance). I'd rather get in my car and go 2 miles to the hot dog stand at the lake front! :-)
I really haven't eaten french fries or fast food for a long time, not on my diet! :-)
I keep seeing commercials for Olive Garden and for Applebees on American TV here, but we don't have either of those restaurants in Quebec. Sure look good though!
We have an Applebee's in my town, and I love the salads. One neat thing is, that they take local memeorabilia and decorate with it..My daughters cheerleading picture is on the wall there. If I can, I always try to get seated in that booth....Oh she was so pretty!

Denise: I live farther outside of Minneapolis and I guess I haven't seen the Sonic's.
I always remember when I moved to Alabama and couldn't wait to try my first Krispy Keame. I waited with great anticipation as I put it to my mouth and took my first bite and as it hit my tongue I thought, "Is this what everyone is raving about?". I'm sorry but they were and still are very overrated. IMO. (BTW: I love sugar)
They are now everywhere around here, even in many grocery stores.
Take care,
Mike

I spoke too soon!! The other day I said I have seen no Starbucks in this area. Today I was in Tilton driving past the outlet mall. I saw a sign that announced that Starbucks was coming soon.
