Heat wave! How are you getting thru this horrible hot weathe
Do you have central ac, window units or fans? What are you doing to keep cool during this horrible heat wave? I Keep thinking back to when I was young in the 50's with no ac and wonder how we survived back then?
Re: Heat wave! How are you getting thru this horrible hot we
We have an air conditioner in the living room. I have hardly been in there all summer and have seldom used it. I do not like a/c too much. I prefer using fans. On my days off I have been going over to the park for lunch and finding a nice table in the shade. It has felt cool there despite the 90 degree heat and the humidity.

Re: Heat wave! How are you getting thru this horrible hot we
Never had AC in my life, managed with fans, but suffered alot. Fortunately, real heat waves in Montreal are usually limited to a few days in July or August, but this year was different. They are calling it the hottest summer on record since 1955 - the year I was born! After 1 solid week of heat and humidity in early June, I looked into AC (I could afford it for the first time), and had it installed before the end of June. We have not turned it off since. It's been a long, hot summer here, with still another month to go!
I'm glad for it, but I also don't like being too cold all the time!

I live in the Arizona desert. Many people have died here in the last few weeks because they were either homeless and therefore subjected to constant heat, and now, with the monsoon, the humidity too, or because they were too poor to pay the electric bill to operate the air conditioning and have died in their homes. Those of us who never think twice about running the air conditioning have been shocked by these deaths this year.
In our house, the air usually comes on sporadically beginning in early to mid April, and stays on for good around the middle of May. This lasts clear until October. You simply cannot live in the desert with temperatures of 110 - 115 without it.

No AC here.......we don't have that many days above 80 here.......just use fans.....July & August are the hotest....but normal temps are just upper 70's & no humidty......we do get an occasional 90-100 but not often......

Relief is on the way and already here in the midwest! Yesterday a cold front from Canada, name Kuki's Klipper by me, came with much needed rain (my lawn in brown) and refreshing temps!
I've had a case of the blahs, humidity has bothered me more this year than ever, and surprises me as I've lost over 20 lbs., you'd think I'd feel better! I have no ambition and outside stuff I need to do!
I'm hoping I'll get back in motion now that it's in the 70s!
Re: Heat wave! How are you getting thru this horrible hot we
I live in the Arizona desert too, so our "heatwave" usually starts in about May and ends in about August. I feel really bad for those of you who have beautiful summer weather until the temperatures soar. What a shock that must be to your systems!
I survive the heat here by staying out of it. Sounds simple, but it isn't always, so to help stay comfortable at those times when I can't avoid the heat I wear a wet bandana around the back of my neck...and ALWAYS drink lots of water...and watch for the signs of an electrolye imbalance due to sweating.
Re: Heat wave! How are you getting thru this horrible hot we
I moved to Florida! That way I can become accustomed to the heat year round.
I'm trying to buy some property in the mountains right now to park my fat butt in the summer time to cool off. But you know what? I'm not getting a lot of responses from realtors who know I only want a small lot to park an RV on. They are mostly interested in selling million dollar homes and acreage.
Re: Heat wave! How are you getting thru this horrible hot we
Here in Florida, I don't think they make homes without central A/C anymore. You'd think conditions would be worse here because it's so hot, but I go from my air-conditioned house to my air-conditioned car to my air-conditioned office and back again. I'm so used to the A/C that if I get outside in the heat it affects me rapidly and I am really prone to heat exhaustion.
Re: Heat wave! How are you getting thru this horrible hot we
On my 2nd day of no air conditioning - couldn't get an "appointment" until noon today. With the high's in the mid-90's I'm dying!

Re: Heat wave! How are you getting thru this horrible hot we
A/C has been running since June, and won't go off till around October. I just can't take the heat like I used to. When younger living in LI,NY I would fill the tub up with cool water and soak with a glass of wine, before bed. Worked like a charm.
Re: Heat wave! How are you getting thru this horrible hot we
Another Floridian who can't imagine life without central A/C.....oh wait.....we had a few days of that after each hurricane last summer.....we're definitely spoiled.
Until about 5 years ago my job involved evaluating soils...digging 6 foot holes with an auger.....yes, even in the heat of the summer.....boy was I in shape back then!

Re: Heat wave! How are you getting thru this horrible hot we
We have had a great break in the temps Tues & Wed... the high on Wed was 71 degrees !!! In Texas.... in July !!! Hey, we're not greedy... we'll take whatever breaks we can get !!
I am very sensitive to heat...especially with my meds.... so, I use that excuse to my advantage occasionally !!! How do people work outside in that heat ? I dont get it....
