Default How Many of You Are Guilty of This?

I've noticed a trend in my fellow cruisers. A trend that I am guilty of myself.

How many of us head for our favourite fast food joint the minute we disembark?
C'mon. Fess up. I do. Fast food actually tastes better when you've undergone some deprivation (like a week or two). Not that filet mignon and lobster constitutes "deprivation".... perhaps "system purge" is a better term..... Or is it more like forbidden fruit?

Who's had a Big Mac, Whopper or KFC etc. on disembarkation day, and somewhat enjoyed it?

I haven't done it on a cruise but I have been guilty of it in Europe and Japan. I had to see what McDonald's was like in Germany, England and Japan. I felt sort of "ashamed" that I could try all different types of food and I had to see what a Big Mac tasted like in a foreign country.

My wife on the other hand always has to have something at the airport, after debarkation, because she hasn't eaten in three hours. She's the one without the weight problem.

Take care,
Mike

Not I or the wife. If we eat ashore it is not the fast food joints but to partake in the culture that surrounds us.
I can get all the fast food at home, do not need it at the ports we visit.

Good lord I can see it now McRat, McBat .. I don't think so. .... ROFL.

I have to confess. I did that once after my first cruise which was on Grand Princess. I don't eat much red meat and it seemed like the only other option on Princess was fish, fish and more fish. I like seafood well enough, but by the end of the cruise I was desperate for some chicken or turkey. So when we went to our local pub for dinner one night shortly after the cruise, I ordered the chicken fingers and fries. I can only think that all that strongly flavoured seafood must have gotten to me because those chicken fingers tasted fantastic.

I am not a big fan of McD's or BK. I find the food(?) revolting at those places.

We had Taco Bell for lunch on Monday after arriving home from our cruise but that was mostly because I hadn't been to the grocery store yet and the cupboards were pretty bare.

Usually after the cruise, it's airport food for lunch. But we try to go to a sub place if there's time. The line at McD's in the airport is usually very long...go figure!
When driving back from Philly, we did stop at McD's because it was next to gas station, and we all needed a fill-up.

I don't do fast food but guilty as charged! I was in Europe in 1990 for an on/off the bus trip for 18 days and very first thing I did was go to an all night greasy spoon for 2 fried eggs, hash browns, bacon and toast!!!

Last year after my Italy trip, I went to the store bought some ground beef and cooked a huge burger on my George Foreman grill! I had very little meat that trip, and although I don't eat hamburgers much any more, it is what I was craving!!!

We've never done that after a cruise, but absolutely after being in Europe or the Far East for a week or two, we hit the fast foods after arriving home. Strange, how we miss that "stuff" isn't it. (I rarely go to McDonalds, or Burger Doodle, except for breakfast occasionally)
See you aboard,
Ken

Not us. We head home and usually enjoy a home cooked meal in the late afternoon and go to bed early.

For me when I get back home to the U.K. the first thing is a decent cup of tea and oh yes a slice of toast with MARMITE on it!!!!!!!

Also, it is nice to go and have an Indian meal as you rarely seem to see these when in the States.

Never, never touch MDee's or BK.

Regards,

KG

I don't really go to fast food places when on a cruise or not on a cruise. So no you will not see me heading for a fast food joint when I disembark a cruise.

We usually head for home and lunch in our neighborhood Mexican restaurant. If we're headed for an airport, we hit a restaurant there, but never McD's or BK.

After our last cruise we had deli sandwiches, so I plead no contest to the specific charge. Last time I visited Tokyo I ate my first meal at a McDonalds. I had just gotten off the airport bus and was starving and it was right across from my hotel. They had an intersting wrinkle to menu selection, each burger and combo meal had a bin with colored cards below it you took and presented to the server. Since "Coke" translates into most langauges it made ordering painless. McDonalds is so ubiqutous in Tokyo that at a spot directly behind my hotel you could see seven of them without moving your head. A slight disclaimer: I ate plenty of sushi, tempura, noodles, etc during that trip.

Upon returning home(usually late in the evening from a long flight) its something quick or light and off to bed. Tomorrow its usually out to dinner at a local restaurant. trying to recapture the good service found on the ship.....Some how its never the same..

We go home like Jeanne and Ellis. Rest up, unpack a little and head out to a nice restaurant. It's hard to break that habit of having someone else cook for you and do the dishes.

I go to the Waffle House the next morning after I return from a cruise and have an order of pork chops, eggs and hash browns with onions (which is my normal sunday morning ritual), which is the greatest way to clean out my system and then for the next 2-3 days just eat very lightly (salads, oatmeal, fruit), which gets my system back into the routine

We usually stop at a restaurant after arriving back in our home town or vicinity. Don't want to spoil the vacation mood by eating at home. That would be horrible.

Im guilty of the crime. After our cruise's we usually hit mcdonaldsor kfc or something, but mainly because its a quick fast meal so we dont miss our flight and still have a full stomach.

Well.. Not that fast food lasts long in the stomach but you guys get my drift.

beats the heck out of the peanuts and crackers aboard the airline.

I plead guilty. We always stop at the McDonald's just off the freeway near our home and bring home burgers & fries. I do NOT want to cook the day after the cruise and after the drive home!

Great idea, Cruise Cynic! I like reading this thread! :-) Made me smile and does Pizza Hut count as Fast Food???

I do tend to get their personal pan pizzas when I come home from a road trip and the frig is empty. My pizza hut is next door to the grocery store!

Oh, and I do have to hit my local hot dog stand and ice cream shop down by Lake Michigan, too!
