Sure enough I go to work this morning and there are police cars and police trucks everywhere. I go into the store thinking that they are following up from Saturday. I see one of my managers who is supposed to be on vacation. He tells me that the night crew found a pipe bomb at 1:15 am. in the paper goods aisle behind the toilet paper. It was NOT there when they bomb squad searched the store earlier in the day. One of two things, either the caller came into the store before we closed and planted it there. Or it is an employee. The night crew had to evacuate for 6 hours. The bomb squad detonated the bomb but before they did, they checked it out to discover that there was no gun powder in it. The state troopers and bomb squad assured the employees that they had completely searched the entire store and there was nothing else there. We opened the store at 9:30 am instead of 8:00 am. The managers gave us the option to stay or leave. Some employees went home because they were too nervous to work. I talked to one detective who told me I was probably in the safest part of the store. My cash office is in the very back of the store away from where the bomb was found. I decided to stay and work but was very nervous (scared) all day. We now have a police detail at the door of the store. The police are constantly patroling the outside of the store. The store security guys now have hours and hours of video to watch. They are looking to see who planted the bomb. Hopefully we can find out who is doing this and he can be stopped. Lucky me I get to go back tomorrow night to work.
Geez, and I thought my job was stressful! I get screaming toddlers, and toileting accidents, but at least no bomb threats!
Hope tomorrow is a little calmer for you Cheryl!
As for the why, they are leaning towards a customer who had a run in with a service desk associate and an assistant manager back on September 7th. He became very angry and made threats against the manager and the store. The cops were called and he was arrested. Last Sautrday, there was a call made to the police station stating that a bomb was in WalMart. Nothing was found that time. This is all speculation as to the "WHO" but he is the prime suspect because he did makes threats against the store. Only time will tell.
Trip--you can bet all your cruise money on the fact that if I feel the least bit nervous or see the tiniest thing suspicious, I'm out of that store. I'll call the managers from my house to let them know.
Cheryl, u stay on the lookout !! I will hold you in my thoughts... its a crazy world... it only takes 1 nutcase to put fear in the hearts of thousands !!
