Default Lynne & Trevor (Sun princess)

Lynne:

Read in one of the threads that you had been on the Sun Princess. We are 3 couples considering the Sun Princess 10-day southern Carribean
Feb/06/06.

Our reasons for this cruise is itineray, port of departure, date of departure and 10 days.

Could you or anybody else advise experiences with this ship?.

Thanks,

Bill

Hi
For my first cruise, I really enjoyed the ship. It's quite intimate and easy to travel. The layout is more compact than the larger ships and I learned to navigate it very quickly. There are little alcoves with tables by the windows to sit and read down on Deck 5. There is a very nice atrium area with the stairs going up to the 6th and 7th decks. While we sailed there was a stringed quartet playing, in the Atrium. Another day, there was a more Latin type group with a vocalist. Our Uruguayan neighbor sang along with the vocalist as he was doing his home video--it must have been Spanish or Italian.
Each evening I enjoyed a singer named Barrington Brown, who sat at the white Grand Piano on I think, the 6th deck, under the stairs. He was wonderful-did requests, as well as sang show tunes and other selections.
There was a Pizzaria on one of the decks that we had to go through to get to the Casino-or other side of the deck. That wasn't bad, though, as there was a thoroughfare for that. The Ship had the Princess and Vista Lounges, forward and aft.
We purchased the "official" video and I look at it every so often. I showed it at work for a Travelogue group and wanted to be back on the ship. I have good memories of that voyage. We went to the Western Caribbean.

Now, this was "way back" in 1998--I don't know what condition she is in now; I've read good and bad reviews, but there are those on the newer ships, too. I'll see if I can answer any specifics, but I really enjoyed myself. Lynne

BILL, we sailed on her sister the Sea Princess back in 2000. Great ship, big but not huge, with an intimate feeling about her. 10 day Southern is a great trip. Anything specific that you have questions about??

We may still take the Sea Princess on the New England/Canada cruise if the prices come down. We will save some money by driving to New York City or northern port-but those expenses will be eaten in the cost of the the trip up there-Trevor doesn't like airports and I'm upset at the hassles.

Bill, I think you will have a marvelous time on the Sun Princess!!! Questions? I'll try to remember everything I can! Lynne

Lynne:

I guess my main concern is that the ship is 10 years old. I've read a few posts that recommends going with newer ships. This the only one that met all of our requirements.

We have been on 3 cruises and they were all good as far as service, food, entertainment etc. If we pay for 4 stars, we don't expect 5 stars.

If you take the New England/Canada cruise, what time of the year would you go for? Also, any ideas which ports you would be visiting? DW and I often drive to Halifax for an escape weekend.

Bill
