Default Brenda in Canada - Martha Stewart

Being a convicted criminal and on parole, Martha Stewart would be denied entry into Canda. She was going to be in a pumkin festival in Nova Scotia.

Our Minister of Immigration was being interviewed on local TV tonight and he advised that it would be possible for her to enter Canada if she applied for a special visa.

I know it sounds ridiculous to deny her entry but, it's the law.

I don't know know what the law would be in the USA but, I would expect it to quite similar?

Bill

Bill, Yes I heard she was coming for the Pumpkin Fest but I had not heard she was denied entry!! lol
In a way it is too bad,as I am sure the local businesses, etc. would have loved a celebrity in their town to bring in more tourists.
Bye for now. Brenda in Vancouver

so, let me disagree with you hypothetically.

It's IS ok for OJ Simpson to come here, but not martha?

I agree with your point that it's the law, but I think Martha was convicted politically by the establishment, she's not really that kind of criminal.

What I mean is the law is there to keep out the criminals we don't want like drug dealers and murders etc, but is martha really that kind of person? Also, if the law is so absolute and just, then do we allow OJ here??

Banker;

In all fairness to the establishment and the law of the land, if she applied for a visa through proper channels, she would be granted entry.

Earlier this year, there was a Russian family living in a ship in, I believe, Lunnenburg, N.S. The family had been there for allmost a year, were well received in the community, the children were in school and living a normal life. Immigration Canada forced them to leave. They were told that they would have to apply for legal entry and that they would be accepted.

When they sailed away most of the community was there to wish them well and safe return.

I guess that what I'm trying to say is that some laws are definitely not fair or right in all circumtances. However, we do live in a country where government is made of laws and we must abide by them until they are changed.

Incidentally, I agree with you on the OJ thing. Definitely not right but, he was not convicted.

I think you Canadians should only let her in if she promises to TURN INTO a pumpkin!

I heard today on the news that she is now allowed in. That is good for N.S. tourism.
Hopefully she won't be doing any stock market deals/etc.!
Yep, I will just be opening my tin of pumpkin pie filling and putting it in my purchased tart shells for Thanksgiving. Obviously-I am not a big Martha follower! lol
