An article in our newspaper today described how people are being smuggled into Canada, using cruise ships.
The board the ships as "regular passengers", and when they reach a port of call, they explain they have to leave the ship for "various reasons", or simply get off as if going on a tour.... then disappear.
A number of Koreans were arrested this week attempting this, as was the person facilitating their plans. But they did say they are aware of 17 people who previously got off ships and then disappeared into the population... or somewhere.
Where and how are these people boarding the cruise ships, Kuki? Are they in possession of cruise documents, proof of citizenship, etc. which would normally be required before anyone could board a vessel? Are crewmembers involved in this smuggling operation? Those all the questions I can think of at this moment.
I'm wondering if these people are US residents (legal) and trying to come here, or are they there illegally in the first place. If so, then how are they getting into the US (I'm assuming they are landing by plane or something and not running across the mexico border).
Maybe cruise line check ins should have passport readers like at the airport. Primarily for terrorist reasons and and secondly for this sort of thing???
