Default Canadian rate of exchange

Shopping for the best rate for a cruise???

Ask for a quote in both Canadian and American $$$.

There was a 4% difference on a cruise we recently booked. The quote we got in Canadian funds was American + 25% rate of exchange.

We paid for our cruise with our credit card in American funds and the credit card company charged us American + 21%.

4% of $3000.00 = $120.00 in savings.

BW... I'd say that's about the norm. The cruise lines like to make money on every transaction

On occassion though, in the past, I've seen a few times where the cruise line rate is lower. Always worth checking pricing... and exchange rate.

When I have received a quote from a US based online travel agency, I have never asked about it in Cdn.$$. I have always assumed it would be cheaper in US funds through the credit card rate. I will start asking now re:rate in Cdn.$$.
