OT: How Many Of These Have You Seen In The Funnies (comics)
How about comic strips in the neswpapers in the good old days? How many do you remember reading?
Not in any particular order: Smiling Jack, Alley Oop, Joe Palooka, Jungle Jim,
Terry and the Pirates, Toonerville Trolley, Gasoline Alley, Mutt and Jeff, Lil Abner, Katzenjammer Kids, The Captain and the Kids (clone), Orphan Annie, Little Annie Roomey (another clone), Smokey Stover, The Little Hitchiker, Dick Tracy, Phantom, Mary Worth and Barney Google.
Do these bring back any memorier and can you think of some more?
Oh God yes...my parents worked 2-3 jobs at any given time and my "dad" time was reading the sunday comics together..he tells me when he was potty training me we would read the comics while I was sitting on my own "potty"...When I was blessed to have my own son that's how I started him reading and I am proud to say he has passed on the "tradition" with his son
My Dad taught me to read the comic page first, because I would find out what was going on in the world, read the obituaries next to find out people's accomplisments, the sports section next to discover man's victories and failures and the front page last to find out how poorly man treats his fellow inhabitors on earth
Don't remember most of those, but I do believe in Venice's dad's philosophy of reading the comics page first!
One of my old favourites, Calvin and Hobbes, which was discontinued a few years back, is making a limited run comeback in the Montreal Gazette, and I am enjoying it all over again. My new favourite is Get Fuzzy, with Bucky the cat and Satchel the dog.
I don't know how many of you get the Canadian comic "For Better or For Worse" in the U.S. but in my mind, it's the best thing out there today.
