Thanks John, those pictures pretty much confirm what I have heard. Wonder where my cruise in November is going instead?

How hearsick I am after seeing this destruction. Yes, it will indeed be a long, long time before Cozumel is open for business again.

What is the name of the pier with the shops down the middle, is that Punta Maya or International?

Holy ****!!!! Hubby said don't worry the piers are concrete.... Well I just had him pull up your pictures - Mother Nature is amazing!!! So sorry to see the destruction and hope that the people there are all right - can't get much from local news since the Houston Astros are in the World Series that is all you hear about - I sure hope all is well with the people. Things can be rebuilt. Thank you for the pictures! Debbie

I just saw the pictures and it just makes me sick. I was just there a week and a half ago and it was so beautiful. My heart goes out to all the people of Cozumel and the other areas hit by the hurricane.

I sit here and wonder, after the awe of what nature has done AGAIN...but for the cement to be that broken up, it makes you think..Powerful waves or sub-standard workmanship and supplies?

mind boggling...

That is horrible!! Surely those can't be the newer pier where Carnival stops(you know with the shops right there, etc.)?
Thank-you for posting the link to the photos. I kept hearing about Cancun on the news, but not so much on Cozumel.
That is so sad for the people of Cozumel, etc. and for all the cruisers who were supposed to be going there soon. I love Cozumel as a port also.

Even if a person is not religous..when you see pictures like this and what happen with Katrina, you are reminded that "someone else (a higher power) is in control

However, I'm sure Cozumel will bounce back quickly because the cruise business is their life line

Schedule to go there on the Conquest the week of 11/13..cross my fingers that we get another day at sea because it is a smooth jazz charter cruise..ports were not important

I posted that link on the Ask Cruisemates Staff before I checked out Chit Chat.

The Carnival pier is Puerta Maya and that and the stores beyond (including Pancho's Backyard) were pretty much destroyed. It's the pier with the covered roof which used to be enclosed.

I too am sick. I thoughts and prayers go out to the families who make a living on the beaches of Cozumel and cancun. I was doing some research last night, and found an e-mail from the owner of Paradise Beach. It is gone too. because it was only 9 months old, she had not bought insurance.

I am shocked to see this. On our side of the pond we had no idea of the size of the damage.
We have Cozumel in our cruise in January and I was so excited to go back. Specially this cruise, because we have a good friend with us as a first timer and told her all about Cozumel, the shops, the snorkeling in Chankanaab, the speedboat thrill on the other side of the island.
All gone ......
My heart is broken for the people on Cozumel who live on tourism. I hope they can get back on their feet quickly.

Unbelievable.

Wow. These are the first pictures I've seen of the destruction in Cozumel. It will be a long time before ships can come in again. Makes me sad.

Cheers,
Michelle P.

I have heard that the locals are making statements that they WILL be back in operation as soon as physically possible! This said when they don't even have power our any of the other basicas right now. Ya gotta love these wonderful and strong people!
