We are back in one piece! Waht a hurricane thiswas!!!! At one point we thought the roof might take off, but it held Thank God!! We had electric but no phone until now, but its been off and on. Just wanted to let you all know we survived Wilma. Hope the rest of the Floridans did as well.
I'm very glad to know you are all right now.
My son in law sold his home there in FLL about 2 months ago. The neighbors said the old street were he lived look like a bomb had gone off. this is in Taramac. Trees split, roofs are gone, lots of damage . His house had 2 large palm trees that were up rooted.
There is another one out there Beta. UGH go away !!!
Good for you! Glad to hear you made it throgh. This one turned out to be a bit stronger than everyone thought, (except me, remember I said a cat 3) and the wierd thing was that it got stronger as it passed over the state! Hope there wasn't any damage to the home structure and your other things. Pays to be prepared doesn't it!
Jim, you are so right about being prepared. It amazes us how many are expecting the state and local governments to give us things. We had plenty of notice about the hurricane coming and to stock up on foods, water, gas the car, get cash from the bank. I guess some people will never change. I better get off the soap box. We had minor damage, a few schrubs that made it thru last years twin storms, and thanks to the hurricane shutters we had installed last year no leaks a few tiles off the roof and now enjoying this lovely weather. We had electric restored in 18 hours, but the phones were off and on for short times, Ellis had his TV because cable came back fast this time also. I am just glad it wasn't worse than it was. That back side of the storm was scary!! Having a little dinner for our neighbors tonight so have to get back in the kitchen. Praying everyone is well and survived without much damage.
So happy to hear that you are both okay. It must have been a very scary time. You are right about people not being prepared. I was jsut reading a few articles on Yahoo.com about that very subject. People had more than enough time to prepare, especially since the storm slowed down for awhile. Maybe next time people will listen to the warnings.
Have a good time with your dinner party tonight. And again, very glad to hear you are safe.
Glad to hear you and your house are all right! It's weird being so far away, but so aware of what's going on through the news reports, and "knowing" people like yourself and Sue are right in the middle of it all.
Can't even imagine what you went thru and all the people in Fla. We do tend to think of you and watch t.v. more than usual when hurricanes tear through. Here in New England we got a noreaster Tuesday and it was nasty. Stayed wet all day, but only a fraction of what others went through. Glad all is well; hope the season is winding down.
Fern, Don't change your mind about moving to Florida, it is a wonderful place to settle. I was a New Yorker from the get go, and never saw myself in Florida of all places. Now almost 30 years later living down here, I wouldn't want to be anyplace else. Just don't get a condo on the beach!!
