Luggage restrictions?Help!

Does anyone know how big and heavy a bag can be<carry on and check in> to bring on a plane? I need to buy luggage and I have tried to get some info from the airlines and airports but they are all different answers<so it seems?> Is there a bigger allowance going overseas?

sue, check with the airline that you are flying. Seems like the amonts can vary from carrier to carrier. Yes you are allowed more on international flights. If you go to your carriers web site, you should find that info.

Virtually all domestic carriers are at two bags , 50 pounds each for check in with fees for overweight being applied pretty unyieldingly these days. Many overseas carriers were at 70 pounds and recently went to 50 (two checked bags).
Most luggage companies are now coming out with newer lightweight luggage , saving 5 or 6 pounds on 26 and 28" bags.
On our recent flights from Hawaii, American was also being very fussy about carryon sizes, numbers and weights.
Look on the website of your specific carriers .
