Residents of Cozumel now have reason to celebrate as they prepare to welcome thousands of cruise ship passengers next week, proving that despite Hurricane Wilma, Cozumel remains a favorite Port of Call in the Caribbean.
Also noticed that cruise ships for this week have been posted to Cozumelinsider.com if you want to see about this week.
Twelve luxury passenger cruise ships will anchor offshore and tender passengers to the island throughout the week, starting Monday, November 14. Ships currently scheduled to visit the island next week include:
Monday: Carnival Triumph, Celebrity Galaxy
Tuesday: Princess Star, Norwegian Sun and Royal Caribbean Jewel of the Seas
Wednesday: Carnival Miracle, Norwegian Majesty, Coral Princess and
Thursday: Royal Caribbean Legend of the Seas
Friday: Royal Caribbean Rhapsody of the Seas
Saturday: Royal Caribbean Enchantment of the Seas
To honor the passengers' return, local government officials and businesses in Cozumel have organized "Festival del Mar Caribe," a week-long fiesta featuring cultural music, festive dance performances, local artisans, roving mariachi bands, lively entertainment and street vendors selling local crafts and paintings.
"Town Square will be transformed into a lively entertainment venue where cruise passengers and locals alike can celebrate throughout the day and experience the sights, sounds and tastes of the island," said Raul Marrufo, director of the Cozumel Tourism Promotion Board.
Before arriving on the island, cruise passengers will receive a personal welcome letter from Cozumel Mayor Gustavo Ortega, as well as a complete itinerary for the Festival.
"We have organized Festival del Mar Caribe to thank the many returning visitors, as well as our cruise industry partners, who have been extremely supportive of our recovery effort in the wake of the hurricane," said Mayor Ortega.
