Default The World Cruise ship

Wow, I heard about this ship, so I did some research. This is a great idea, if you have the money and the time. Does anyone know about it, and how it works? Is it like a time share, and is there more than one ship?

Luanne

Are you talking about the Residensea? If so, it's been on the books for a few years. Quite a different lifestyle to be sure.

Check the Travel channel guide..there was a whole show devoted to this ship, and the people who have bought into it..it's an amazing concept.
The ship goes to where the action is..The olympics, the carnival in Venice etc..There is a grocery shop on board,as well as the chef, who can whip you up meals at whim. High end shops, are also there for a bauble or 2. or 3.

There are downsides as well, depending on your point of view. This is really NOT a cruise ship per se..These are sometimes, the 3rd or 4th home for many owners. They are NOT looking for hairy chest contests or singing hot hot hot in the dining room. The ship at times is quite empty. One couple was in a lounge, where the piano player was playing only to them. The card room was also not a busy place, they mentioned.

One couple they showed, mentioned, they just pulled out the checkbook after they saw it..[oy] lucky them!

They also had floorplans that you would kill for, and designers to do them up like a 5 star hotel...Lets all pitch in,shall we? I've got first dibs

At $1100 per night for two, for the "basic" cabin, yikes! I could very well be wrong, but I don't think any of us could afford this, no matter how much we wanted to

I just checked and there are close to 11500 registered members of CM"S. If everyone donated maybe two of us could go! Since Trip has first dibs, I guess it would be her!

It sounds wonderful, but we'll never be there!

Fern, do you realize that there are many cabins on Celebrity more expensive than $1100 per night (for two)? I bet even RCI and Carnival have more expensive cabins. Many people may talk here about booking the inside guarantee but I think many do spend more than $1100 per day (especially when you add in booze, tips, and specialty restaurants).

Default The World Cruise Ship

We drove to Boston to see JOS on Oct. 22. In port that day was NCL Jewel and The World. That is what it says on the back of the ship. It wasn't impressive; rather boxy looking. I guess all the elegance is interior.

Just checked the Travel Channel. The show dedicated to this ship is on December 1, 2005 at 3:00 pm.

Luanne> Who is Rick? Is he wealthy? Once you, or we, get him, do we hold him for ransom?

No Marc, I didn't realize that! I guess I won't be booking Celebrity any time soon! Everything I've priced on the mainstream cruise lines are between $100.00 and $200.00 pp/per night. Granted, those are not the "Owner's Suites", just the balcony cabins. I'd rather pay less and cruise more often!

After reading the Residensea board I can tell that the people there have more $$$$ than I'll ever have, and I'm happy for them, but I'll never be there !

Here is a pic of The World entering the Saguenay River as we were exiting the river on the Enchantment in October.

Well.. let's see .. tips are $10/day, a visit to the specialty restaurant is $25-30. That leaves room for an awful lot of BOOZE

Realistically, there's VERY few cabins on Celebrity, or any of the major mass market lines, that would fall into that price category per diem. Only a few of the top suites.
