pick one...

I just cant decide on a ship for my next cruise. I am going to let all you cruisers out there help me. What was your favorite cruise for ports? Which side do you prefer? Easter or Western. We are looking at a Jan/Feb cruise.
Thanks...Karyn
P.S. Brenda from Canada wants to go too...

I like the Eastern but top choice is southern. Not crazy about western but just my preference. I would recommend trying all eventually.

Southern always goes to the top of my list.... Sch exotic islands..then Eastern..Whatever you decide, have a ball..

Only been on 2 cruises. First was Western second was Southern. I perferred the Southern. And am ready to try Eastern next. I definitely would go Southern again.

Between eastern & western, I would go eastern (without Ocho Rios, Jamaica). However, the best is southern.

It really depends on what you like to do. Do you like to shop? Do you like to visit ruins or see local culture? Do you like to lay on the beach and bask in the sun? Do you like snorkeling and water sports. Do you like more time on the ship?

If you like to shop then Eastern is better.
If you are into Local culture and Mayan ruins then go with Western.
If you want all around water sports, snorkeling, diving and beach days then western is a better itinerary. If you want more time on the ship then Eastern will usually give you more sea days.

The choice is yours.

Take care,
Mike

Hi:

I'll have to agree with the majority here. I like the southern, then eastern and lastly, western. Along with other cruisers, we did not have a positive experience visiting Jamaica.

The one I like the best takes me to Hawaii.

Happy cruising....Buddy

The lovely Mrs. Jones and I like 'em all, however Western is our #1 favorite, (We don't bother getting off the ship in Jamaica). We like the sea days, so that makes it our choice. We love the Virgin Islands, and if the ship makes few stops, then Eastern gets the nod. We too love the Southern route, but it's usually too busy for us. A port a day, makes one tired upon the return to the U.S.A. Whatever you choose, you won't go wrong.
See you aboard,
Ken

Our favorite next to the Hawaiian cruise was the Southern Caribbean. I loved the ports---St Lucia, Barbados etc.

If I had to pick between Eastern or Western, I'd do the Eastern, just done too many Westerns, but my favorite is Southern. You can visit more islands in the same amount of time.

venice November 28th, 2005 06:21 PM

I would chose a ship that has more sea days than ports and one that has a private island as part of the itinerary..that would rule out the southern caribbean because they tend to be port intensive..but gives you the option of east/west

Pick One

I have to agree with the majority, Southern route but to us the only hindrance is the four hour flight to P.R. from Boston and the price to fly there.

HI Betty,
Yep, that long flight is a drawback, but once there its worth it! I've also noticed that the seas are very calm when doing a Southern, have had rough seas on both Eastern and Western, guess we've been lucky with the Southerns.

Mike M November 28th, 2005 07:37 PM

I'll agree with peoples suggestion about the Southern itinerary but your question was only Eastern or Western. LOL

If you want outside the parameters then:

Mediterranean, Tahiti, Alaska, Hawaii. My personal opinion is that one Caribbean island begins to look like the other after a couple of visits. There are a myriad of places to go on a cruise and a whole world to see. Now that you have the cruise addiction you can put it to good use and see the world and satisfy the addiction while you do it.

Take care and have fun cruising: Wherever you do it.

ihave been to the eastern an the western like them both in the eastern
i liked st martin and st thomas western i liked coasta maya and cozumel

Dorothy November 28th, 2005 11:09 PM

I've done both, but MUCH prefered the Western. Like several other posters said, it depends on what you like to do on a cruise.

Western tends to be more "active" - Eastern more laid back and better for shoppers.

We loved Belize, loved Costa Maya and were pleasantly surprised at how much we liked Cozumel. Could have skipped Grand Cayman entirely, IMHO, but lots of folks disagree.

Eastern offered up St. Maarten, which we loved, but I could live without Nassau and Freeport.
